12-24-07 update page 2!

a lil history first... got the car back in may for 800...ran but had a blown turbo and shitloads of boost leaks...put a new turbo and drove it for a while till winter came...never had the tiem to work on it yet untill recently me and my da got the garage finished.wanted to wait till christmass before i spend any money...i have however bagan to pull the motor.its really not as easy when you spend all day working on cars fo a living come home from an hour drive to work on this lol...about 3 hrs worth of work here.

THE PLAN:

finish pulling the motor...hopefully christmass day..all i got left is driveshaft, motor/trans mount, exhaust and fuel feed line...i think that should be it.after the motor is out i'm opening it up to check it out and off it goes to the machine shop...in the mean time i clean and paint engine bay.also need to repair rust under battery tray...

Heres what im going for in order i want them done:

Engine:-

-oem gasket kit:bought
ARP main, head studs and rod bolts- recieved
Aisin oil pump-received
OEM water pump/ t-belt-received
Clevite bearings-bought
topline rings-bought not sure if i'm using them
new freeze plugs-bought

waiting for freeze plugs to get here so i can send the block to the machine shop...i have everything i need for the motor i just need to make sure what size mhg i'm gonna use after machining.Probe pistons are sold!

As of right now i'm planning on going map-ecu route.

yes mine was unfortunate to have a really bad owner for 3 months.he bought the car turned the boost to 14 psi and beat the shit outta of it till the egr cooler gasket blew and it sounded like the car had rod knock...so he thought the engine was toast and sold it to me for 800 lol...he bought for like 3500 3 months earlier i have the receipt somewhere haha...dumbass

Looks like ya got a little bit ahead of you, good to know you'll be taking your time. Body doesn't look like it's in too bad of shape.
As for the MHG, decide after the machine shop is done machining the block and head, ask how much they took off of both and do the math to figure out which size headgasket you'll need.
Also, make sure they machine the block with the lower timing cover on, a lot of shops do not do this and will result in the headgasket not seating properly.

thanks for the info!this is teh reason i love this site...

also, the body looks decent in the pics, but the car has been rear ended before (r-title) and tehy did a bondo job on it...not the greatest and rust is bubbling the paint on the quarters...

Sounds like you've got a long road ahead of yourself, but you can only drive them one mile at a time. Make yourself a list and slowly mark them off one at a time. If you don't, then you may get overwhelmed with how much stuff you have to do. Make it a bunch of little projects and you'll feel like you've accomplished something instead of looking at the big picture and thinking you'll never get it done. Good luck, and Merry Christmas.

merry christmass to you!!i love your supra even if its blue:icon_bigg

taking stuff apart and putting it back together is not the biggest of my worries...i do it at work everyday!

my biggest worry is the fabrication stuff...i've never really welded before.that is gonna be my biggest challenge...i decided to start off "easy" and get the motor done...i just need to figure out all the RIGHT parts i need!!!not as easy as walking into the parts room and order a gasket kit and two rods and pistons for a 3.3 caravan motor...

nice, looks like you got a lot of work done. looks like i wasted 45mins taking the ac compressor off... :(. that rust doesnt look TOO bad, lil bit of grinding will let you know if it needs to be sectioned. this isnt as hard as it sounds espcially for such a small spot., time for some simple green in that engine bay, should clean up nice.

haha why did you remove your a/c?i'm completely eliminating the a/c systme...the car IS targa after all:naughty:

also i'm planning on removing everything from the engine bay to degrease and paint it black...once the car is done (engine, supension, interior,)i'll take it to the body shop and they can paint it for me:icon_bigg i mite do the body work myself, but i'm to anal it would take me years just to make sure everything is straight lol

i took it off cuz a thread on here told me to, " 7m removal in 49 easy steps" right now i got about 15 steps left to go but it mostly just the ground wires, and my messed up hands arent helping.
i'd say just give the body work a try, worst case the body shop will just have to fix it again which they woulda had to do in the 1st place, but u get some practice lol.
i gotta get workin on this thing asap, see if i can catch up to ya. :biglaugh:

oh and if u need any parts lemme know, i got a spare 87 sittin here.
