Finally got back around to working on the Supra after about a month. Damn bike, all I want to do is ride :)

Had 1 knock sensor wire shorted to ground (again), need to find something higher temp, it looks like the braid melted into the center insulator. I temporarily ran another wire from the ECU away from any engine heat and she was back in business...

Pulling good (found fuel cut at 9psi with the MP T70), AFRs ~11.8:1, life was good. Then... pulled into the gas station and smelled coolant :( Coolant hose going to the TB split and was spewing into the plug galley so I lost 2cyls on the way home. Luckily champion was still open, ordered up some new hoses along with some interior parts to replace the ricer red crap the PO did...

Fixed the coolant hose but it must have sprayed a shit ton of coolant down in the plug galley, #3 and #4 ain't firin at all. Off comes the IM AGAIN. Should have just put a damn FFIM on it lol.

Trying to decide what to do fuel wise so I can run more boost. I have a Walbro, Lex AFM, SAFC, and some 680cc injectors so I can run E85 but I'm a little worried about the Walbro being able to keep up until I can afford a surge tank setup. Figure the Walbro is good to about 500rwhp with gas, need 30% more fuel with E85 so I should be ok to about 350rwhp.

Little dirty math (not an ideal method, I know): ~11hp/psi of boost so 16psi is 176hp+230hp stock = 406 crank hp
15% DT loss = 345rhwp

Maybe limit it to 15psi to be safe (of course watching the WB and EGT like a hawk). Thoughts?

Drive it until it blows....................not.
I don't know anything about the E85. I've heard it's great for high boost, but it uses a shit load of fuel. Good luck and I'm sure someone with some E85 experience will chime in soon.

Friend hooked me up with some VT Nebraska tickets so I sold mine on ebay and blew the money on fuel parts :) Bosch 044, surge tank, and about $200 in -6 line/fittings on the way...

Car is running pretty good again, put new plugs and wires in last night. Hitting fuel cut at ~8psi, need to hurry up and get it smogged so I can start the fuel upgrades :)

Still trying to track down an intermittent miss/breakup, I think Jon and I isolated it to cyl 2 or 3 last night. Hopefully it's not 3, I don't feel like pulling the damn plenum off again...

I ran e85 on my ka-t'ed 240. I know that you can run a butt load of timing. I even leaned out once but never saw any knock. The rule of thumb is 30% more fuel, but a lot of times it actually less. And remember that stoich for e85 is much different than gasoline. If you get a wideband make sure it supports e85.

It's good stuff but gas mileage is poor at best.

I know about the mileage, I got 14mpg in the city in my turboed Escort on E85 :biglaugh:

So unfortunately I think I found the source of my miss. I say unfortunately because it looks like the HG is a goner :( Had a few puffs of white smoke on the way home from work after idling at stoplights and the overflow tank was bone dry when I got home. Gonna do a comp test to verify but I'm pretty sure that's what it is.

Anyone have a source for a cheap but good TT HG? Mark at XSPower has a kit for $245 that looks pretty good, seen some on ebay for <$100 but they kind of scare me. Figure I'll go a little thicker for more boostage, but don't want to lose too much low end...

Definitely the HG, pulled the #2 plug and the tip was red. Must be pretty bad, the rad is empty too, probably lucky I didn't overheat on the way home last night.

JIS Engine in Arlington has a HG set for $88, might give it a try, I've heard really good things about them. Either that or I'll pick up an OE gasket from DM and a lower intake gasket and VC gaskets from Toyota...

I will not be deterred, waited 3 yrs to drive this sucker so what's a few more weeks :) Plus I'm single again so I've got the time and money :biglaugh:

Ordered up an OEM TT HG from Driftmotion and the rest of what I need from Toyota. I'm looking at this as an opportunity to make things better and clean up some stuff that bothered me the first time around. Stay tuned...

Got the head pulled today, motor looks good (can still see the crosshatch) and the head does as well.

HG didn't look bad, but it looked like the seal was breached between #2 and #3

Gonna get the head back on and then figure out where to mount my surge tank/external pump and plumb it all up. Hopefully be up and running again in the next couple of weeks:evil2:

Jon came over and gave me a hand today, got the head and block cleaned up and dropped the head with new HG on. Torquing the head bolts is a bitch, my back was killing me :biglaugh: Good thing Jon was here to do the final torque because I'm a big pussy :)

There was some corrosion on the head and block near #6, little worried about that but hopefully she'll hold. Otherwise time for another 2jz because it's cheaper to buy another.

Gonna hit it hard after work tomorrow and figure out where to put all the crap for my surge tank setup.

Current plan:
-Tank under the d/s headlight
-044 on the driver's side framerail under the intake manifold
-FPR on the strut tower
-? where to run 4 -6 lines through the core support
