You think so? as for the timing belt... since the engine swap, never. And tbh, I was such a noob when I got the engine I doubt I would have even known what the timing belt was (ok I exaggerate a little, but you get my point). I wonder what could cause all my belts to suddenly start coming apart... is it the belt conditioner I was using?? that could be the culprit huh... *facepalm (it's made by CRC). I stopped by Champion the other day to order a new A/C belt, and it cost me 27$ and I have to wait 7 business days... I think that deserves another facepalm... pm sent after this reply

Well a little update for ppl... got my ac diagnosed and an estimate done... the gasket between the plate on top of the compressor and the gaskets to the two tubes are leaking. To fix it (apparently the only way to get a new gasket is to get a new cover where the two pipes go in) will cost me 790 dollars, including a refrigerant retrofit to r134... wtf

opinions?... yes ac is necessary...

I think I have a spare of that gasket. I know I did at one point, but I may have already given it away.

RockAuto has a gasket kit for $8.95. Advance has the same one for $9.49, in stock locally. Not sure if it has that particular gasket but worth checking out.

The R134A retrofit kit Toyota sells is a total ripoff. They charge $150 for the same thing you can get at any parts store for $20. I bought the regularly $150 Toyota kit for about $20 on eBay and was thinking I had scored something special but it wasn't.

Josh (dok33) has retrofitted his, from what I recall it was fairly easy.

damn... I knew that price was iffy... LoL you think this is a task we can tackle together? .. what do i need exactly for a r134 retro fit?? a different gasket kit? I see the one on rockauto

Seals and valve adapters, which come in the conversion kit, and a new receiver/drier from what I recall.

I might be able to help you with it on Sunday but I'm busy until then. You have some time before you really *need* A/C.

I just did some more research, and I found that r12a is a legal substitute for r12... and it doesn't require a retrofit.. so if we decide to go this path, 9 bucks for the gasket kit off rockauto, 40 bucks for a r12a recharge kit or 12 bucks for one can of r12a... much better than 790... LoL buuut I want to make sure r12a is a good substitute for r12. The guy I talked to mentioned some kind of oil that needed to be changed if swapping refrigerant... I can't seem to find very much on A/C retrofitting here...

Welcome to Austin... do you live in he downtown area? My girlfriend told me she saw a gay blue supra at the Hancock center. next to the H.E.B and sears, about a week ago? She said there was a oriental guy standing next to it. She didn't know if he was the owner. Also said out of state plates.

Thanks guys!! SA Supra... that was me LoL... the second day I got here I was at the Hancock center waiting for a friend. LoL you make it sound so shady lmao. Do you know Jon?? man we should have a supra get together.. oh wait it's called TX2K11... :D

Yeah Portland is a beautiful city... very comfortable too.

Well... Pics soon, I just spent 8 hours yesterday cleaning my car... I found out that the stock muffler tips are actually shiny!! =O LoL!!! I got the gasket for my leaking thermostat housing... apparently, there is no gasket there, but there is one that seals on the thermostat itself.. I assume that must be the one since i AM obviously leaking from that spot... Oh and I found out that my exhaust was loose... got that fixed

I told her to go up to you and start talking engines with you and see if you freak out.

No never talked to him. I've talked to dok33 at a meet a year and a half ago. My car is down at the moment. Gonna 2jz this one this summer.

Wow great story. I have been reading it for the last couple hours an found my self cheering you on for your trip. Was happy to see the story ended well with you landing in Austin. I just bought my 87 last summer turbo/5speed/targa and have been doing little projects as i go. 3in exhaust sure made a diff. Then i did something which will now bite me in the ass... I bought my wife a mint 89 NA/auto targa for our 25th anniversary. At the time it was great as she liked it stock.. But now after all winter planning she wants, body kit, wheels, sound system, new paint.

My advice to you would be avoid women!! what starts as fun ends in 3 kids who have NEEDS that put your car on the back burner. Unless you can find one who's father owns a shop or better yet dealership or even a auto parts store. Maybe your story will end with your first born in the supra on the way to hospital and the story can start again in 25 yrs lol.

LoL thanks 1stTurbo!! Couldn't agree with you more, I hope my kid(s) will love this car as I do ^^

SA Supra... seems there isn't much interest in the Austin meeting LoL!!... perhaps everyone is anticipating a long recovery off of TX2K11??

OK, so I'm uploading pics right now... should have em posted before the day is over
