Generally speaking if the previous owner doesn't specifically point out the head gasket as being done and explain exactly how it was done and what head gasket was used... it wasn't ever done...
Most people that aren't up to speed on the Supra's will sell them when this starts happening.
I love Supras... owned many over the past 5-7 years. Bought 'em, sold 'em... have a 87 and a 88 right now.
However... I recommend you avoid them if you only have a couple thousand to throw at it.
1. you wont get one you will be happy with.
2. It will need work...
3. It will need...
Yeah farthest first, but do I need to if I only replaced the front calipers? The rears weren't touched. It brakes fine however the pedal just feels softer than my 88.
The 87 doesn't have Abs.
14 hours cleaning my garage and organizing 5+ years of parts gathering... I have a lot of steel braided lines... Lol.
Picked up new rotors/pads/calipers for the 87 mk3 and did that. Why don't they supply anti-clatter plates with the new pads? Cheap bastards... And how are you supposed to take...
Yeah, my bad, the NA needs a certain amount of back pressure to run properly. A 3" exhaust would probably hurt the car.
I think the head gasket should be fine. The way I understand it is they torqued the head properly at factory but had an incorrect torque value in the original TSRM. The rest...
My tune will cost over 2k on the hks fcon VPro this upcoming week.
I thought the only way to steep the torque over the HP was to go out and spen 10k on a 2jz stroker kit. (Or build a 7m)
:)
Doubt your gasket is blown, but with that low if mileage you could check to see if a retorque is possible. I'm not sure if you can back them off and retorque individually.
If you replace the exhaust... Go 3" and replace the elbow with a nonrestrictive type. That alone makes the car a demon...
Water/meth injection cools the intake mixture allowing for aggressive tuning without detonation. Most I have discussed this with use it after they hit about 550 rwhp. It does work, but I can't say anything about pros and cons having never run the setup.
Okay... on July 8, the car goes in for a T4 HKS Longrunner Manifold / SP6265 turbo with a 3" downpipe and external 44mm Tial wastegate (vented to atmosphere).
At the same time, the HKS Fcon Vpro 3.3 (with a 7MGTE chip) gets installed..
So, I just want to know, am I going to have any issues...
They do the support across the windows but its not a total connection so it won't be as rigid ad when the roof is on, although I expect it to be close.
My body has a little wobble but its mostly on bumpy roads that its noticeable. If you have a lot of wobble you may need to retorque the frame...
