Mine only did this right before it started leaking (interior side). If your not losing fluid, I'm not sure what would cause it.

I don't know about normal, but next time kick down to fourth. Simply because you like your car and that is probably the hardest on it. Sounds like you spiked, but if you have an electronic boost controller it can cut your boost if you spike.
