    Race Ready 7M

Hi Dave, You're probably right on the cam cover leak as cause... Two weeks ago I had the timing belt, idler wheel, pivot pin, come out of its hole, leak oil all over then sprayed all over the place with the aid of the fan. Interesting how I've put that mess out of my mind. I had to purchase a...

    Race Ready 7M

Dave, I just checked the resistance to the pick-up coils of the CPS and all are 158 -160 ohms (spec140-180). So beside the leak which upon closer inspection was from the leak around the cam covers, blowing in past the dust gasket. The center of the housing is dry. On the Igniter, I just...

No, I haven't done the Igniter ground wire mod. I wouldn't know where to start to do that mod. I do have a new 12AGW ground wire from the coil pack assembly to the stock ground connection. Please see more specifics of the problem on my build thread, linked through my signature. Thanks. Van

    Race Ready 7M

O.K. I checked the CPS and it is going to need replacement as it is leaking oil into the inside through the seal. :3d_frown: Is that a cause for misfire? I called the shop today, they suggested that I buy a used one as a new one is $650 US. The thought is I could get a good one that lasts...

    CajunKenny's Build Thread

Thanks for this info... I don't want to hijack this thread so I've posted my experience at yesterdays Dyno test in my build thread, linked through my signature. The team at the shop did a lot of what you suggested Dave. Thanks again . Van ---------- Post added at 04:32 PM ---------- Previous...

    Race Ready 7M

I went to get the 7M dyno tuned on Friday, Oct 29th, but the session was cancelled because of misfire. The 7M has an oil leak around the cam covers into the plug valley. The wires were all dried out and the plugs cleaned. They inspected all the plugs and are all set to .030 and indexed. The...

    Cam Tuning Help/Info

Kenny, The wires were all dried out and the plugs cleaned. They inspected all the plugs and are all set to .030 and indexed. The misfire at the dyno on Friday was bad enough, that the run was cancelled. The 7M needs to have the misfire sorted out before a dyno tune. The misfire comes on under...

    CajunKenny's Build Thread

Kenny, Your build looks great. I noticed I too am having break-up during load on my dyno runs today. We checked the CPS and it is rusted, but in spec in air gap and pick-up coils. I'm going to pull the CPS and remove the rust on the rotor and pick-up coils surfaces Saturday. What abrasive would...

What Do You Know About Oily Plug Wires?

The plug wires are three months old. Stock Supra wires. Thanks for the tip. I'll see where I might buy that Stateside. I still have a misfire under load, that I'm going to sort out, using these tips. Thanks guys. Van

What Do You Know About Oily Plug Wires?

My neighbor is helping me put this 7M back on the road: He said that oil on the plug wires mean they are going to be dodgy, and need replacing. What do you know about oily wires? I'm trying to dehydrate the oily plug wires... I sprayed Chlorinated brake cleaner in the valley and in the plug...

    Cam Tuning Help/Info

Whew! Got them all in tonight (3 new ignition coils and coil wire harness). Noticed oil in the spark plug valley so shot some brake cleaner in there and as it is soo cold tonight, I'll have to wait until tomorrow AM to start 7M up. I didn't bother to put FIPG on the cam cover gaskets, as I'm...

    What makes the GTE different?

Built to the group A formula the specifications of the car are a sign of the times. Engine specification include: Cast magnesium 9 litre oil pan with matching high flow oil pump, Knife edged steel crank, N/A block hand picked from production line, Short skirt Mahle/TRD pistons, prepped rods...

    Adj. Cam gear initial setup

I have those same cam gears and had the same challenge. The stock gears were easier to set I believed so I put them on; not... Replaced them with the Fidanza gears. I just made sure the gears were both pointed in the same direction. My next challenge was setting the CPS according to TSRM. That...

That's correct. TSRM spec is 36 ft-lb. Van

    Adj. Cam gear initial setup

One warning: Don't over tighten the belt using the prey bar; make sure the timing belt deflection between the timing gears is per TSRM spec (New belt = 4-6mm, Used = 5-7mm) Take a look at TSRM page EM-31. Van

What would cause the fuel pump relay to buzz, even when the key isn't in the ignition

I discovered that I had unknowingly connected a bundle of wires to battery pos terminal of the starter, that are all ground wires.:3d_frown: This was a costly mistake... I had to purchase a new TPS, fuel relay, ignition coils, and a used TCCS ECU, before the motor started working reliably again...

    Adj. Cam gear initial setup

I too had this challenge with those same gears. I kept working with the set and eventually got everything pointed in the correct direction. I did find that by using a pry bar on the idler wheel, I was able to take the slack out, they both lined up, then I tightened the idler wheel bolt to spec...

    Cam Tuning Help/Info

Thanks! That is my plan... I had the 1st ignition coil go tits up on me last night :3d_frown: (limped home on five cylinders). I checked the remaining two ignition coils and they both were at the top of the spec for resistance, so I ordered three new Ignition coils. They are available through...
