Yeah, it was probably someone who spent his time building a 1JZ to make horsepower rather then speculating in online forums about what the engine can or can't do. There really are people out there like that, I have met a few before. :biglaugh:
Well we took it back to PJ's a two days ago to get the color sanding done. It's about a 20 mile drive so it was a good time to make sure everything was good. Jose said once he was in 3rd gear it was making full boost by 4k rpm and it was freakin hauling ass!
I'm supposed to pick up my 85mm stroke 7m crank tomorrow, so I'm thinking about the cam selection now. I have an opportunity to have a set of cams made to my specs at a good price, but I don't have any real experience with upgraded cams other then just cam gear adjustments. I was talking to...
I welded a few pieces of steel plate to an old automatic trans flex plate with holes that line up with two of the bellhousing bolts. Makes taking off flywheels a lot less dramatic experience. :biglaugh:
If you only have a 7m flex plate, just drill a few of the holes in it to match the 1jz crank...
It's most likely a rod, and you will not know how bad it is until you pull it apart. Most of the time the rods that are not already knocking are not far behind the one that is. This usually happens from oil starvation for one reason or another, so just slapping a bearing in it and running it...
On mine the engine is basically stock with forged pistons, and on the dyno the horsepower was still climbing until about 7250 rpm with the gt4082 turbo and the standalone. It just barely started to drop off at 7500 rpm. I don't see any reason to rev a 7M much higher then that unless you have...
If it is knocking loudly, I would not drive it or start it at all. The more you run it the more damage is being done to the crank and the rod. Sometimes you could go for months with it knocking, sometimes you could drive it a few miles and put a rod through the block. It really doesn't matter...
