Improper assembly or improper machine work. Or both. Hard to see in the pictures as said above, closer pictures of the headgasket, cylinder head's HG surface and block's HG surface would help.

That's how I had to do it with a TH350 in my auto trans class last semester. I didn't really document anything and just tore it all apart. Had to go through by memory and AllData / ShopKey
transmissions are easy haha. just make sure to take pictures, use plastic baggies to label and organize things, and put everything in a row from first to last in the order it came out of the transmission. it makes the job MUCH more sane
yeah for 26k flat out you're going to end up a not so great neighborhood. you MIGHT get lucky but good luck on that one.

since it's a JZ swapped car, if you choose to use the R154, you'll also need the R154 1JZ bellhousing. Which goes new for ~$300. I'm sure you COULD find used but I don't see them pop up often. A R154 in good condition I've seen go from $300 up to $600. If you buy new clutch kit (disc/pp)...
