an oil thermostat will regulate the temperature. if you want to keep your filter under you P/S headlight, I'd say go with the filter under the D/S. That's where I have mine. Mine is 8x11x1.5 with an e-fan on the backside.

if you have a running car to test parts with, I'd say try the ignitor and/or coils I hate doing a swap part "diagnosis", but it's easy if you have a running car on hand :/
