If the camshaft surface is good, try pre-lubing the contacting portion of the seal/camshaft with a tiny bit of clean oil. Oh, and make sure you aren't installing the seals backward. ;)
I am an advocate of the MHG/ARP studs combo. Done correctly, BHG becomes a thing of the past. However, I think you would do just fine with a Toyota OEM head gasket and ARP bolts.
Edit: damn I'm slow :squint:
Is it engine oil? If it is then it might be coming from the j-tube plate or the big crank case vent tube that goes up to the oil fill port. Could also be one of the oil seals on the front of the engine.
Looking pretty good....both of them. Ron, the finish you put on there is pretty interesting. I'm curious of how that was done but I understand if you'd rather not share.
That's a possibility with the Bosch since the vac port is on the top. Mine had looked like it was getting kinked by the hood but not enough to choke it off.
Try disconnecting/reconnecting the vac line on the valve and see if you can hear it actuating. Better yet, look into the discharge port while you do that. You either have a leak in that vac line or the valve isn't responding. It doesn't have anything to do with your turbo or how much boost...
What fixed the white smoke problem? Cool you got it fixed though. The blue smoke could be a few things. What kind of shape is the turbo in? It could also be something wrong with the rings....like not seated or end gaps not set correctly.
You won't strip the block or the bolts. Yes the factory headbolts are of good quality. However, the material they are made of has a relatively low yield value. I am quite sure your headbolts are stretched pretty badly since you have them at 82 lbs/ft. :aigo: Your new HG won't last long.
Be careful around your overflow jug.....a couple of weeks ago I was looking at mine for a second and the cap blew off in my face....not cool at all. My e-fan had died and I drove uphill behind slow a$$ tourists and of course overheated.
What are you running for a fan(s)?
There are plenty. It pretty much just has to fit the radiator. I used to run a non-descript GM fan that I pulled from some mid 80s v6 GM sedan. It lasted two years w/o issue (a year in the CA high desert). I'm thinking of looking into a Taurus fan setup that I've read a little about from a...
Yeah, even healthy motors will have a noticeable amount of blowby. Totally normal unless (engine running) it's really flowing out, and not just little puffs.
What does the fluid look and smell like? If it's brown and burned smelling then it has been overheated (start looking for an r154). When autos overheat (just from what I've read) the fluid expands quite a bit and either pukes out of a breather on the top of the trans or the dipstick tube. I...
Perfectly fine. I also don't know why people think it's so dangerous to run w/o the upper tbelt cover. I lost mine after my first rodknock (early '02) and have never had an issue (nor on my ae86 before that). Think about what it would take for something getting in there just driving down the...
As long as it's working properly it doesn't matter if the system is 50 years old. I think the factory system has adequate juice for high power levels. The shortfall is lack of controllability IMO.
