You can't spin the oil pump gear. It is done by the crank.

Yes, IJ, it's crank driven. The pump fits over a gear that is on the crank and it will need to be lined up properly before slipping over it.

You still need to make sure the oil pump makes oil pressure before starting even after you have it lubed up externally by the pump he has.
