I wouldnt say shorted the circuit but the temp from the weld could have altered the sensor's metal somehow through magnetization. Did you arc weld or mig?

I've had bad Tokicos on lots of cars. But all Toyotas. Celicas, Supras, IS300s. They seem to hold up good on Hondas. No one uses them on Nissan, because us Nissan guys have higher standards ;)
