Gotta bust you on that. It had to be something else contributing to it. The TCCS doesn't even use AFM input at idle, IIRC, and you can even drive the car with it malfunctioning or disconnected.
Wrist pin issues on these engines is very rare. If you got the pistons out of the block, it will be easy to tell if the knock was from the wrist pins. If you can't feel any play, take the pins out, inspect them , and if good, just replace the sleeves. Sleeves are cheap, and you can get those...
Sorry, missed that. Wait until you are ready to put the gasket on the engine to spray to outer contact surfaces. This will help it seal better, and also avoid possibly damaging the coating while it's sitting around waiting.
