A complete dashboard will do it I think. Hopefully I will be able to find one. I was even thinking it would be possible to graft a usuable lower section from the climate control module down to my existing dash but it looks very complicated.

That doesn't sound or look like a BHG. What that sounds like is your timing is way retarded. When I first built my motor and I first started it up it sounded exactly like that. What you have to do is jump those 2 pins per the TRSM and set the timing 10 degrees BTDC.

You should order new bolts from a Toyota Dealer if you don't want to spend the extra bucks for ARP bolts. You can tork them to 72 ft.lbs. no problem. Don't reuse your existing factory bolts. Also.. make sure you do a retorque after around 5-7 heat cycles or a few hundred miles.
