Cars you'd one day like to mod...

Short list as of now. 1) 2003 RS6. 2) Make my own RS8. :) But use the W12 TT VW has in the Bentley. (With some more boost of course...) A 900hp AWD large sedan would be perfect to crush ego's all over town with, and yet comfortable for the long ride between jobs. (And crushing ego's... LOL)

    Aftermarket camshafts

On the 7MGTE, it only moves the power around from what I've seen. The gains are pretty expensive compared to more boost pressure and fuel. :) I'd spend the money on larger valves, some port work, and correctly adjusted settings for everything. Key points are to leave a small anti-reversion...

oil squrter delete wrist pin stavation ?

Generally, on many "performance" pistons, they have holes that are drilled from the oil scraper ring, to the pin bores. There are also a few that just allow oil back onto the underside of the piston/rod. The holes that are drilled into the pin bores "pressure" lubricate the pins at that...

    What's the reversion dam?

There are a few ways you can do this. First, the dam is a lip that's created around the inner diameter of the runner, and it disturbs the laminar flow at the head gasket/port, creating an effect that at lower speeds, helps to keep exhaust gas flow from backing up into the combustion chamber...

    Best air filter?

I just put a Pipercross filter on my bike. Have a K&N on my A8L. Have used K&N's on my Supra for years. No problems at all. What many people forget is that all oiled filters are depth filters v/s just holes in paper or mesh screens. Once the holes are plugged up, the filter flow...

    Shell Rotella T6 5W-40?

I find it works great in my motorcycle. I run the GC 0-30 in my Audi however. (And it's awesome there.) I have run the Rotella in various cars, and it's a fine oil. If you stay up late at night worried about 2psi, you will go crazy. :)

Dual stock 7MGTE AFM's and 880's Is it possible?

Here is a question for you guys. (I have thought about this for many years, but never tried to see if it will work.) Run 880cc injectors, a Walbro pump and to meter the air, use two stock 7MGTE AFM's, but only pull the signal from one of them. (In theory, it should give you 1/2 the airflow...

    Head machining needs

I'd reccomend to have the head SONIC cleaned, not hot tanked. (Often the hot tank can damage stuff you really don't need to replace.) Here is my thought. 1) Are the valve seats leaking? 2) If all you are going to do is replace your valve seals, why do a valve job? (I totally am there...

    polished pistons?

Intresting stuff. I've found the piston crown coatings to work very well in helping to control detonation, and piston damage from excessive heat. (I have both my crowns, and the combustion chambers on the head coated with the same thermal barrier, and it works.)

    Brand new turbo smoking?

I agree on the PCV system, and about the only advantage the M motors have over the JZ's is that the oil seals don't care as much about crankcase pressure. There are many catch can setups available, but I think that using an air filter for a larger compressor/air flow is the best idea. (They...

2jz block bored out with 1jz crank?

I'm with the reality that larger bore is not the (best) way to gain displacement. Stroke is better, when you can get it. Bore only works if you have verified the bore wall thickness, or are using liners. (especially on open deck designs, if we are discussing any engines here, the 7M is...

    oversided valves/without p&p?

It will not do anything of benefit in my view/opinion, but just curious where/what are the valves from? Could be a good source for a cheap upgrade, BUT you would need to do as IJ mentioned, and have the valve seats/throat/Inside Diameter opened up at least .5mm as well. (Same as the Comp Cams...

    7M assembly tips.

Sorry guys, I've been really busy lately, and have not had much time here. I ended up at 103 lbs on moly? Why, well it was really early in the morning when I was done with this motor, about 3am IIRC, and it's where I ended up. I agree, looking back, it would have been better to have stayed...

so what went wrong here?!?!? Please help.

Get a CSF dual row radiator now. New thermostat. Check the fan, and fan clutch. (The alloy center part that the plastic/nylon fan bolts up to.) The fan clutch should not be easy to turn when the engine is hot. It should be slightly more easy to turn when cold, but it should not freewheel at...

cylinder head porting / what is this for ?

LOL, my head has no more dimples.. Larger valves, and all the porting and smoothing work pretty much removed them. Besides, it's all coated too. Perhaps that's why my stroker sounds like a diesel engine? LOL

    Ceramic Coating 7M Crank

Van, here's my .02 for what it's worth. I've coated a crank with molydisulfied, and it was a great deal, right up to where I found out that washing out the crank WITHOUT pulling the plugs is a really, really really really bad idea. (There is quite a bit of crap hanging out in those oil...

    head is STUCK!!!!!

This reminds me of when my friend was trying to remove the intake manifold from his IH Travelall.... It was stuck on there pretty good, so he just hooked up a chain around the coolant runner, and looped it over the fork lift we had there in the shop... Lifted up the front of the Travel...

    More piston clearance questions

All rings as far as I know are cast iron. They can be coated, and I'm sure there are various metals added to the material, but all rings except your oil control rings, are cast iron. (Again, that I know of.) I'm a big promoter of a hard break in for a new motor. Ring seal is the key, and if...
