    VNT on diesel engines has been done many times by now. The thing is, EGTs on diesel are significantly lower than gasoline engines, so it's much easier to build something that doesn't fuse into a solid chunk of steel on a diesel.

    My concern with the Porsche units is that those guys are crazy - they are completely willing to replace a turbo every couple of years and consider it a wear item, like brake pads or clutch discs. I don't know if that's what is happening, I don't think they have enough road use on the VNT tech...

    You should post pictures of the extra bolts. They might be flywheel bolts, which would explain both the knock sounds and the clutch failure.

    Jack up the front end of the car and push / pull the front wheels - with that much play, you should be able to track the problem to a loose, broken, or badly worn component.

    You're going to find really quickly that most 'high performance' tires just won't do anymore. I run Kumho V.70 on the rear, they are supposedly track use only. Even those won't stick until it's really hot out. Drag radials will let you stick in a straight line, but they blow donkey cock in...

    I took it to Bill at the Independent Speed Shop and told him to make it right. I could probably have done it myself, but when there is such a good tuner easily available, why take the risk? It's not like the cost of the tuning is even a drop in the bucket when compared to the rest of the parts...
