I'll chime in here on the 7M / JZ subject.
I own both - an 89 Targa 2J single swap and an 89 Hardtop 7M. I like the Targa better, so it's the one I've been driving. Kinda miss the aircon that's in the 7M car, especially in the winter when the windows want to fog up.
Personally, I'm of the...
I think Seamus has had work done there as well. I've done a lot of research on the subject of wheel mod / repair, and there are only the two places locally, greens and panther.
This is an extremely difficult question to answer. The easy answer is somewhere between stock and 700 rwhp, which is the record for stock internals last I heard. Obviously, the high end of that is very difficult to achieve, and the low end is very easy.
A more sensible conversation would be...
I would be hesitant to go with a 57 trim without fuel upgrades first.
On the other hand, I'd be hesitant to throw money into a simple turbo rebuild. Is there some way you can swing a fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and 550cc injectors at the same time as the turbo?
Ya, that was awesome.
"I am the king of the world, and all of you are mere peasants."
No, no you're not. Asshat, meet internet. Internet, Asshat. FIGHT.
Damn. That going to leave a mark.
That *might* be the plug, but I don't think so. The VSV is nearer to the front of the engine.
Can you post some pics of the front of the fuel rail where the fuel pressure regulator is? Trace the vacuum signal line on the FPR, tell us where it's going. It should be going to a VSV - a vacuum...
Also, I'll point out that Ford fluid appears to work better than Redline in the diff. I keep the transmission full of Redline, the diff full of Ford, and the engine full of Castrol.
Next thing I would check is the wiring... had a similar problem on mine, the car was lowered, and the wiring harness under the fender drooped low enough for the tire to rub. Chewed through the wire that sent the UP signal to the headlight. Sure was a PITA to find and fix.
Vipec is really quite new on the market, finding tuners for them is difficult. It is very definitely *not* PnP, it has to be wired in.
To be honest, I'm not trying to turn you away from AEM. The risk of getting a faulty unit is, IMO, outweighed by the fact that you have a knowledgeable local...
AEM has had some nasty failures - I should know, my car was one of them. Faulty components on the board from the factory popped two engines in my car.
I'm running a Vipec now, no problems yet, and it's been three years.
I'll start off by saying that I'm not overly fond of this method of 'fixing' things. However, search on the terms "STARTER" and "BYPASS", this shows up pretty quickly.
