Torn vinyl door liner

Hi guys... I have a 1990 turbo supra in mint condition. I have kept it in a heated garage for over twenty years. Car doesn't shine... it glows! I was trying to dazzle up the interior and tore the vinyl upper door liner. I brought the car to an auto interior restoration place and they did a crappy repair. I had to have the repair redone by a vinyl repair specialist. But he is telling me it will never look original because of the mistakes the first guy made. Any advice. I have been thinking of putting a nice chrome blue decal to cover the damaged area. The car and the interior is a dark navy blue. I know a website called Fast Decals. They have some nice decals for the Supra. But I am concerned about putting anything on the vinyl. Any thoughts? Or should I just live with a driver side upper door liner that is not 100%. Personally I'd pick up another one, either from a dealer, or possibly from a partout here. Or get an interior shop to rebuild the entire top piece on both sides so they match.

Update!!! My guy did the repair and it looks amazing! I have to learn not to be so fussy with my car. I am a bit OCD about it. I go nuts over every scratch or ding. I park my car away from other people(when I can) so avoid getting hit. I am very careful where I take it. I never leave it in the street for too long. I wash it about once a week, and wax it about once a month. Which is normal. I just know people out there don't give a crap. The bad thing about keeping a car so nice is that someone jealous is going to key it. So I basically am limited as to where I can take. Used to have a Camaro and kept that very nice. But it got hit many times and someone tried to break into it. After all of these experiences I am super cautious. I don't like anyone around my car and carry and aluminum baseball bat if just in case I see something suspicious. Because the car is so nice I feel I am a target. I people drive by me in the street and ask me if I want to sell the car. It does stand out too much. It is too clean, too shiny, and very rare. They only sold a few thousand Supra Turbo's in 1990. Any thoughts? Therapy is not going to help. Thanks

Motion sensor alarm there alittle pricey but they go off it anything gets to close or even the slightest noise!

Thanks.. a motion sensor is an idea. I am not sure I want to spend the money. But may we worth it. I don't know where they sell such a thing. Also, how long should I wait to armorall the vinyl that was painted? I tried to amorall the next day, and I saw a tiny amount of blue paint on the towel. Not good. I am going to leave it alone for a couple of weeks. Guess I am still too fussy, but the car does look amazing. Turns heads where ever I go, and I can't afford to replace it with something as nice.

Eh, shit happens man, no matter how careful you are about where you park, where you drive, etc... Leaving it garaged is the best way to preserve it when you're not driving it, but you can't really protect it all the time unfortunately. If it's feasible, park it where there is no reason to go near it unless you work or live there.

Another option is to only drive it if you aren't going to be away from it any longer than you have to, such as cruises, get a bite to eat, road trips, etc... but taking it to work, particularly if you work in a public or retail place, isn't in your best interest. Oh, and for what it's worth, I tend to park like you, way out in BFE, but that doesn't always help. My 88 got backed into twice in the same month (second time occurring right after the first time's damages were fixed...), and my 89 unfortunately stopped a shed display from blowing across Home Depot's parking lot once, argh...

Thanks Brad.Sounds like we are kindred spirits. Yes...people don't care. I guess parking lot damage is an unfortunate fact of life, like death and taxes. Also don't play with the upper vinyl door liner. That vinyl is very thin and can tear easily. Had to spend $400 to get it repaired. Just wondering when would be a good time to use amorall. It does look a little lighter than the other side. But the other side is 20 years old, and has been amoralled umpteen times.

Part of the car has been painted. I bought it used in 1991. It was a demo. Had a lot of parking lot damage, so I painted the nose the front fenders. Guy did a good blend with clear. So most of the paint is original.

Guy did a great job on the vinyl. Got the grain right and everything. However the color is a little light. It is sky blue and my interior is a dark navy blue. Got to remember the interior is 21 years old, has been amoralled umpteen times and may have darkened over the years. Going to call my repair guy tommorow and tell him I am happy with the job, but color match isn't quite right. Maybe have him repaint it. But grain match is perfect and no sign of tear!

Those aren't the kind of people you want buying your car anyway.

I've only had a few people ask if I wanted to sell my car, they usually don't ask again if you tell them all you've had to go through to get it to where it is now...

Leave a chalk outline next to your car and put an NRA sticker in the window. People should leave it alone then...

I like that NRA sticker idea. I do seriously carry an aluminum bat hidden underneath the seat. People gawk at the car, and one time a guy pulled up to me while we were driving, asked me for directions and then followed me. I do feel like I am a target. I live in an area with a lot of rich aholes who don't give a crap about other peoples property. They do have balls, and do pull up to me on the road asking if I want to sell it. I really want to say, "not to an ahole like you". If I could I would get a gun. But what can I do.I am just waiting for someone to come near my car and play with it. That aluminum bat has been gathering dust and I am dying to get some practice (lol). Upper door liner is a little light and does not quite blend with rest of interior. My guy agreed to repaint it. It is hard to match because the car is a dark navy blue. The dashboard which is plastic is a lighter color. But the upper door liner is now a sky blue and the handle is a dark navy blue. My guy is very cool and will paint the upper door liner the darker color. Just wondering if he could do it by putting on a darker clear coat? Or does he have to do a whole repaint?

Maybe. Explains why I haven't washed my car in as long as it's been... then again, so do the dirt covered roads and slush/snow/mud all over the place. Keeping a car clean here is like trying not to catch an STD at a swingers party these days... :nono:
