I heard this sound when I had BHG and I heard it again recently when my coolant lvl was low because of a water leak at the water neck.
When I had BHG I couldn't get it to go away now I just add some coolant and I don't hear it again until the lvl becomes low again.
It could be something other then rings causing low compression.
The best way to tell if its the rings or not is to squirt some oil in the cylinder and do the compression test again, if it improves then its rings if it doesn't then you have either a BHG or something wrong with the valves.
I have always wondered how my 7mgte would run if I took the turbo off and ran a 7mge ext manifold.
I would only want to do this if I had to though :-)
I'm interested in how this thing runs, should be interesting.
I was not aware that there was a high pressure Walbro 255, but our fuels systems do not run all that high of fuel pressure so there would be no need for a high pressure unit.
wasn't thinking timing belt but timing in general, it can be pretty tough to get aligned back up right.
Doublecheck it all again, I thought I had mine right but it was off a tooth.
Have you checked the time?
And does it boost ok? you could have an air leak/boost leak that will make not want to idle.
Also for the tach to work you have to rewire it, there is info on the forum here about that.
