Check your ignitor. Code 14 refers to that. Possibly the connections or the ignitor itself. Try another one if you have access to it.
Taking out your ecu might be a little drastic! Definitely will have problems then!!!
My only suggestion is to use a different feed source.
I use a tee fitting off the oil pressure sender as I have an NA block. The pressure sender screws on the tee as does the feed line. Mine is -4an.
Maybe you have an obstuction in the stock GTE feed port somehow? You could stick a plug in...
If it was just trickling out of your supply line, I think you may have found the problem. I primed my turbo a similar way and had a good flow of oil coming out.
You may be starving the turbo of oil.
Thats my setup in oldskool-nick's link. I have had a few people PM me asking how I did it so I will do a short writeup here to hopefully answer some questions.
I took all the brackets etc off the top of the engine, and cut the piece of the bracket that holds the cable. I don't have a pic but...
Here's a couple of pics rebuilt, ready to go back on the car.
We will see how long it goes for, I still won't be suprised if it shits itself in a spectacular way:evil2:
Woot!!!
Turbo is rebuilt and boosting good... NO smoke:biglaugh:
I was a little cautious about rebuilding my own turbo, but I shouldn't have been. It is pretty easy. Follow the intructions and its all good.
Looking at the write-up before I started made it look complex, but once you rip...
Yep, the MSD wires come with a little crimper that you can use to put the ends on right.
Next update from me will be a turbo rebuild. My stock CT26 just shit the bed at 10psi:cry:
I have a kit already, and have a local shop for balancing, so I am gonna try to rebuild it myself. If I fook...
The outlets are 3 inches, just like it looks in the pics. I like the no rice look of it!
The outlets are only 3 inches long as well, from the end of the can to the tip. I was going to add longer shiny tips because at first it looked too short. But I like it now.
This is a great muffler...
Its definitely oil smoke. I've had 2 BHG's so I am pretty sure of the signs for that:biglaugh: Actually first thing I did after seeing the smoke was a compression test!
Oh well, I guess it is time to use the rebuild kit I bought a while ago. I was hoping to get more life out of this turbo...
Good point Koulee, the shaft play is a sign.
I realise that the turbo is far from perfect, with the exsiting shaft play, but from previous experience with other turbos I expected a more gradual death! My last turbo that blew seals (on a starion) got worse and worse over time. Not like this one.
Yeah, thats what I believe, blue smoke from rings/valve seals etc, and white smoke from turbo exhaust side.
This turbo was pre-oiled etc correctly, as its been on the car for a while now. No problems until now.
Just found it strange that I have had no warning, just started smoking pretty...
OK, here's the problem.
I just put a new 3in exhaust on my car. Drive slowly around the block to check it out. No smoke. Go out later and boost to maybe 1-2psi, drive back to the house, smoke out the ass???
It's white smoke, definitely oil smoke, so turbo seals........
This turbo has...
Bigzavs,
The wires are MSD 7M-GE wires. They are longer than GTE ones obviously. They have the correct plug end and you have to modify the coilpack end to fit the GTE coilpack. The set I got came with that end unassembled. I cut to length then cut the brass electrode thingy in half, and...
Steven89,
Cost is relative to your patience! I was in no hurry as this car is not my daily driver, so I just kept checking the forums and picked up deals when I could.
I ended up buying an 87 turbo with a BHG for my parts. I actually made money on it so this conversion cost me nothing. I got...
da89soup,
First, congrats on your ROTM. Nice car.
Now let me answer your questions.
I am running the stock NA block and head, I pulled the engine to do the conversion cause it is easier to do. I also put the R-154 on too. I am using a stock headgasket with ARP bolts @ 80ft/lbs.
Oil...
