You could always get a line bending tool (~$15) and a few compression fittings and make new pieces to splice in. You can buy steel line at the auto parts store. I'm not sure if the stock lines are 3/8" exactly though, they might be a metric size and be too difficult to get compression fittings...
Check the fan clutch too, it's easy.
It should feel like the fan pushes a huge gush of air when you rev the motor when it's at operating temp (rev it in park with the hood open, and stand next to the engine and you should feel the rush of air, keep away from the fan though). If it feels like...
This stuff looks interesting, I've never used it, but it's supposed to be the thickest stuff you can buy (heaviest wall thickness).

I was able to scavenge all the extra wire I needed for my harness out of a 94 honda accord harness from the junkyard. The old 7M harness didn't have enough pieces of shielded wire IIRC. Accord harnesses are a dime a dozen most places.
Not to beat a dead horse.... but is maybe one of the seals that go between the fuel rail and manifold knocked out of place and creating a vacuum leak?
If one was totally missing it'd idle much higher than 1200, but if one was halfway knocked out of place...
I found my problem. The rack guide (the part that pushes the rack against the pinion), was deformed/burred somehow and was binding in the housing. I did adjust the preload on the spring, but the rack guide wasn't able to do it's job, so that's why it made no difference. The car was beat on by...
Yeah, every time I took a car to bare metal I had problems with it later. I'm no professional body shop though. I hate body work.
My car was flaking and peeling all over, I just sanded the last poorly prepped coat off the body of the car with 120 grit on a DA, except the bumpers. They were...
Probably won't work, those things are pretty screwdriver resistant. You might break something else in the process too.
Are you sure the key isn't worn down or cut wrong or something? That happens... maybe the lock is ok? Not sure, but maybe you can order a new key pre-cut for your car from the...
I don't track my car (I wish I did), but dodging potholes is a sport around here.
To check the inner tie rods you should leave the car on the ground and have a helper wiggle the steering wheel a quarter turn side to side with the engine running. You can see extreme movement, but if you...
I don't think the actual gears that would need to be replaced are even made by anyone anymore. Other than finding a mint original rack I don't think it's possible to have "like new" steering with an OEM type rack. Maybe I'm being too picky, but shitty steering just ruins a car for me.
I'm going...
I took it to the "catastrophe center" today and Progressive did the estimate. After some discussion about leaving some of the damage off the estimate to prevent the car from being "totaled", I ended up with a car that doesn't have an R-title, and a check for $2200. If I had nice paint or had...
Tie rods are all good, I even checked them with the shocks out so I could move them up and down while I checked for play.
Does anyone know if the rack that toyota sells is definitely brand new, or is that one rebuilt too?
Edit...
Yeah, there is, I tried it. The problem is there's more slop in the middle where the rack spends most of it's time. So when you adjust it so that part is properly adjusted the steering binds when you turn the wheel more than about 1/4 turn off center.
I don't know why the rack has so much wear...
I tried a few different toe settings, but currently it's at 0.05 degrees total toe-in. I did the alignment on a john beam 2 camera system at work.
I checked everything else: suspension joints, bushings, rod ends, steering column, shaft joints... several times. I was really hoping it was...
Probably that yellow box.
