Was there fuel in the tank while you were in Iraq (Thank You, BTW)? If so, it could have deteriorated, and may cause further problems now that it fixed.
That sure looks like a honeycomb to me, but I don't think there was any honey in it. I smashed it very good with a shovel (in 3-4 spots), and nothing liquid or sticky came out. Maybe the fire dehydrated it, but I didn't think they made honey either.

89 will not work! 90 was the first year for air bag, so the harness changed. I found all of this out as I swapped engine harnesses from a 90 to a 89, and later into my 92 with the harness I ended up with for the 89. I had to do some re-pinning when going into the 92.

I could be wrong on this in both cases.........
I believe some EGR's have a plug to plug into the upper one. And, the lower one should go to a long cable from the tranny, either for back up lights, or a speed sensor. It's been a while since I played with either of those.
