So i had eletrical issues with my original body harness and i swapped it out with a 91 harness and my car is a 90 and the harness from the 91 did not work.So moving along im trying to find another 90 harness but what i would like to know is if an 89+ harness will work,or maybe has anyone done this etc etc Just for informational purposes im talking about the harness behind the dash and behind the crashbar.

89 will not work! 90 was the first year for air bag, so the harness changed. I found all of this out as I swapped engine harnesses from a 90 to a 89, and later into my 92 with the harness I ended up with for the 89. I had to do some re-pinning when going into the 92.

I feel for you if you are swapping body harnesses more than once! I pulled the body harness from my totaled 90, and and would only do it again if I absolutely had to. I wanted to save that one, but a buddy ended up needing it.

Unfortunately, many pre-89 connections were used into the 1990 model (if the manufacture date was in 89). So during those years (89-90), you may find a mix/Frankensteining of connections, which will not work in other years. I did the same as you and went to hook everything up and wouldn't you know it, I could not connect the door harnesses or the rear-body-harness to the new dash harness.

Also, the airbag may have been optional too. So, it's best to find a car that has the asame trim package as yours (Auto, TEMS, PPS, Turbo, targa, etc, etc). The closer you get to matching all of the features/accessories, the better you will be. What did the 91 harness come out of auto/5-speed?

I am interested in swapping my 91 auto dash harness to the 5-speed...

Satan, you may not need to change anything! I know the automatic ECU and engine harness will work for a 5-speed. The only difference is the auto has a plug for a neutral safety switch, that won't be used with the 5-speed. You couldn't go the other way (5-speed to auto), but you can if you have auto stuff. I would assume the body harness would be fine as well.

i tried putting a 91 dash/body harness in my 90 chassis and not everything plugged in and theres plugs that should have power like the starter and fuel pump relay ie. the large black and white wire the goes to ignition then to thoise relays shows up ground and not power then theres other things that are different like the ignittion plug itself i had to swap that ut and the one from the 91 had two extra wires that the 90 did not that i dont know what they do maybe it will work and i just have something wrong but i really dont know id rather just get the right harness also my headights go nuts now since i did this also

i think the problem stems further than that though i will check it anyways but i still dont understand why the wire that serves for main power for the starter and fuel pump comes up as grounded when i power probe it when i take the probe and power the wire the car cranks and i get fuel pressure i checked the harness for any pinches or anything like that too sorry for all the run on sentences
