    Budget NA build

1jz, no probs with your post, good information. I've been taking cars apart for years, so know hot to remove trim safely, however, others may not. As for photos and a build thread, why not! I am painting the windscreen surrounds, roof and both quarter panels. One quarter panel nas badly flaking...

    Budget NA build

Don't be a tightass, when you get your windscreens replaced, use a professional not the cheapest quote. This repair is the result of a poorly installed windscreen some time in the past. What happens is that the installer uses a cheapo windscreen seal cutter which chips and damages the paint...

Brake pedal goes to the floor.

The black stuff is just brake fluid that's broken down. Tine for four caliper rebuild kits and some new lines. Do it once and do it right.

    Stock N/A Supra top end

If you're going to drive fast put the "Tara" back on. They get bad, really bad, cowl shake if pressed hard with the "Tara" unbolted. One of the reasons I bought a hardtop, I like driving fast.

Anyone on here ever own/drive the NSX?

Forget boost. If that's what you think a car needs, you'll never appreciate an NSX. They are a beautifully balanced SPORTS car, not a straight line toy. They come into their own on twisty roads and WILL leave anything on this board far behind in that situation. They are all about a very refined...

So, Mazda is killing the Rotary again...

Rotary engines are an emissions nightmare. They have a large combustion chamber with a lot of surface area, so tend to keep combustion quite cool, which results in incomplete combustion and associated emissions. I'm surprised Mazda got as far as they did with it, turbocharging certainly helped...

what i saw on a four banger

Aisin Warner, so pretty much Borg Warner under licence. You can do the same mods, even the accumulator shimming. The beauty of the stock turbo setup on a 740 is stacks of midrange torque. They feel like a large six stock, maximum boost comes in around 2200 rpm and stays there till 5000 rpm. My...

Supra #389 rolled into my local dealership

My car isn't super low, but it's pretty early.

what i saw on a four banger

Here's my 740 turbo: Stock turbo, 2.5" exhaust, chipped ECU's and 16psi of boost on E85 = mid to low 14's, and yes, on an unopened engine. And I can outbrake just about anything out there. Oh yeah, it's an auto too. Interesting fact, the Volvo four bangers use a trans which is pretty much a...

Oil in exaust on a Fresh Rebuild /3rd startup video included

What sort of rings were used, and was the block honed to the correct specs for those rings? Sometimes chrome/stainless rings can take some considerable time to seat. *edit. Just watched your video, you definitely have something very wrong in there. Oil in exhaust will take a lot longer to start...

Replacing the Clutch Soon - Anything Else To Check?

Rear main seal, trans input shaft seal/input shaft bearing (spin by hand, check for roughness/end float/play). Check pilot bushing in crank (correct diameter, lube if needed. Also check input shaft for roughness or scoring where pilot bushing runs), check slave cyl for weeping or leakage, check...

Ok so you tell me your thoughts

I'll never pull a head on a Supra in car again, especially a turbo. Just too awkward getting to everything on the turbo side, manifold braces, lines under manifolds etc. Plus with engine out, you can replace those seemingly always weeping welch plugs and do that rear main seal that's been...

Dodge egineers need to be SHOT!!!!!!!

Think so? Go do a timing belt on a modern RWD car, perhaps something with a 1UZ and get back to me. ---------- Post added at 09:04 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:02 AM ---------- Get em done in 30-45 mins, no problems. Lift plenum, leave in place with everything attached. Whizz out...

    surface rust on spare block

Needs a quick hone with a ball hone. Not a big deal. Then cover every bare metal surface with Tectyl if it will sit for a while.

Dodge egineers need to be SHOT!!!!!!!

FWD timing belts are no worse than most modern RWD engined timing belts, only extra steps are usually removing an engine mount and a lower panel for access. It's all about accepting you have to remove some stuff to get to it, and just getting on with the job. I can do FWD Mitsubishi V6 engines...

    First exhaust wrap job

What do you mean? There are uses for header wrap apart from turbocharged engines. Ever considered where all the heat from the headers goes on a fully faired motorcycle, and what bonuses there could be from preventing that heat radiating?

What does it take to go E85? Advantages/Disadvantages?

Please, if you don't know about ethanol fuels, refrain from spreading the usual anti ethanol myths. It's an excellent fuel. ALL fuels are subsidised or cost money to transport and refine, if you look past the uninformed BS, it's a very cost effective fuel, if it's allowed to compete on a level...

    First exhaust wrap job

Fair enough. I will tell you though that my motorcycles will evaporate the moisture out of the wrap (when exhaust is at operating temperature) in 30 seconds or less. basically idle down time.

    First exhaust wrap job

No need to put anything over wrap. I've had wrap on motorcycles exposed to the elements for years and haven't had a single bad thing happen.

    Yanked a Wankel this weekend...

One of my favourite cars of all time is the second generation RX7. A very under rated vehicle, light, very nimble and very fast stock as a turbo/5 speed.
