I said way back when people started doing this, the hose is not meant to be submersed... there's proof..
I always ran a stock hardline and Banjo and never had an issue, I doubt there are too many 7M's that saw the sustained high RPM my engine did.
Currently setting up my Toy for a local standing 1000M event if I can get it tuned by then ;)
Standing mile would be so much more fun though that extra 600M would let it really stretch it's legs!
A) They're 20+ years old, it's what you can't see that's the problem...
B) Your machinist is correct if you have a new set of bolts there's no reason not to use them, they're a lot better quality than people realise.
My take on this is you build a fuel system that will support the required HP then double it, if a pump fails it won't melt the engine and the 2nd pump assures nothing is ever running on the ragged edge, I bring the 2nd pump in only during boost using a PWM controller so you don't get a pressure...
