just curious as to what mk3's were your inspiration, if you had inspiration from another car

here's mine

for powering it down that dragstrip and wanting mine to be reliable and as quick = slow66.. love that car hehe

for damn fine looks and aftermarket :yumyum: parts = upgraded supra

for absolute uniqueness = lamarossa's

for the one i was going to absolutely  = mellowyellow

for brutal looks and "don't mess with me" looks = negativegforce

there's most likely more but that's what i can think of immediately

What inspired me? The first mkiii I've ever seen was about 5-6 years ago, which was owned by my friend Dean. I thought it was a hot looking car, but didn't know it was classified as a "fast" car and payed no attention to it. So, a little while later, he takes off and starts going down [5] [15], the berlin turnpike. I hear a faint whistle coming from his car...it starts getting louder, more louder and all of a sudden the car shoots out sideways (very violently I might add) burning tires untill 5th gear. This was a full t-61 car with 450+ to the wheels.

From that night on, I swore to own one. Did alot of research, and since then have owned two "running" mkiii's and numerous parts cars. Now, I own not one....this sucks.

when i had purchased my dark blue (hard top) 87' Turbo 5spd from my dad, when i knew nothing about cars, i found DanMcBoost's car, and i wanted that one to be mine ;) That was my inspireration to fix up my car and learn how to do it my self. now two years working on the car, i do all my own work, and and finaly putting the engine togeather my self to drop back in the car... can't wait to be boosting!

I agree with Dan's car being a beautiful example of a Supra...I already had mine at the time, but I still loved that car. And Dr. J and Shawndude are the ones who inspre me to learn more about the car.

My inspirations come from many areas.

I was never into cars until I had a chance to friend in a friends MKIII about 8 or 9 years ago. The moment I saw the car for the first time and had a chance to ride in it, before I knew anything about anything that had to do with cars I said I will own a Supra.

In seeing many peoples cars. I have to say I have had much inspiration
from people like
Dan McBoost and Bishop at MA70.com
as well as JBLMK3 for the technical side to things and realizing what is truly needed to pull out serious numbers from the 7M with out much modification.
all the way to the west cost with a particular person with a very nice MKIII I forget the name but I am sure everyone knows the man. Lost of cool customer work he did himself along with his Motec ECU and digital display. Traction control and many other things. Mello Yellow (Acroth) Supra as well just shows me that we can create great extreme Supras here as well. That they don't just exists in Japan.

So many great Supra's have I seen. All I can say have been inspirational in one way or another. Just seeing someone put in all there effort into creating what they believe to be there masterpiece of a car is enough to say that's what I want to do. Or I want to continue and drive forth because of this person. Even if it drains my pocket LOL!

My true pursuit behind my car is to not just bolt on the parts because people say they work. But to use my own thought process and figure some technical sides to it as well, Like so many people have done. creating a truly great 7M and MKIII combination, in both over all daily drivable , reliable performance and great clean mean looks.

I have thought about many things like creating a sequential turbo setup using a stock CT 26 and a modded one or using after market turbo's I like the idea of creating the ability of spooling allot earlier and then keeping the power longer with a setup like that. and less turbo lag as well.

My MKII!!!
My friends MKIII - Feeling the rear end get loose at nearly 100MPH just like a viper I had rode in previously.

I purchased my MKIII from some older lady, did a 7M-GTE swap, had bad luck with rod knock, then I purchased my friends MKIII that got me started in this big mess, and am swapping out his motor that he blew, but keeping the same setup. Oh boy I cannot wait to boost this baby. She makes me smile everytime I see her under the car cover.

Mello's old 7m - first mk3 I ever saw on SF
Dan Matoba's 1jz - the level of detail in the engine astounded me, and the car was clean as hell
Ron Ramirez's Exhaust manifold - just the manifold (a damned work of art), not the car... ;) jk
My first mk3 - did the 1jz swap but changes in my life made me go a different route
Eric Rhodes' 1jz - conversed often when we were some of only guys doing the 1j swap, when I saw his writeup on the "first drive" I knew I had to get mine going

Omg, yes, Dan Matoba's car. I forgot about that 1jz car. That was probably THEE cleanest MkIII ever. And what was name? Mike Urbano from the west coast, as well. Dark blue 1jz with a full bomex kit, jdm fender flares, volk rims...etc. I liked that car. Alot of you west coast guys got some nice cars.

To be honest I never really looked at mk3s till a friend of mine was looking for one (he previously had a mk2 that he wrecked, and wanted to step up to a mk3 turbo). I was looking for something around the same time, and was thinking I'd get another RX-7. First it was finding a turboII, then with much dissatisfaction in looking for a decent one I decided it would be a GXL with a TII swap. One day we're shootin' the shit talking about what kinds of things we're looking for, and we get online to show what kinds of things we've been checking out. He brings up a pic of a reasonably clean silver mk3, long story short I start hitting up every mk3 that's for sale in 50+miles.

exterior looks: every one of you that has your car lowered, wheels, and tint with good paint and a clean body. I'd never have imagined the car would look so good with just basics like that. I mean I love the way the stockers look, but da-yu-mn.

Interior: heh, mostly my own ideas, but a more than any other is boosted surpa's red car with the sparco's in it. Also gotten some inpsiration from john lingenfelter's old TT vette (RIP john). First time I saw that car it lacked all the dress up and stickers, but had some very nice accents on the interior- just enough you knew no factory would do it, but very tastefull and subtle.

Engine: jblmk3 for showing us what the stock parts can do for us. Otherwise? I don't know where I saw my first FFI, but if I keep the 7m in the car it's getting one. I've pretty well kept to making all my parts custom, so I don't feel like I've grabbed setups from anyone in particular, just anylized a few parts to see why they work as well as they do. Future inspiration: my friend's single turbo 2jz SC300; that 2j is just a sick motor, and is always a suprise in any car that isn't a mk4.

Dan Matoba's, it's just so black and clean.

Mike Urbano's, what's not to like about this car?

DrJ and Shawndude, make me wish I knew waaaay more about these cars. Someday I'll know as much as them. Also DrJ, Dan McBoost, Bishop, Rajunz all have awesome/clean cars and I know there are way more cars out there that give me inspiration to get my car to the same level as theirs :)

There are a lot of deserving names up there, and I agree 100%. The only two missing that I can think of off the top of my head are:

BecauseIcan - for the perfect example of how to make a Mk3 Supra look like a year 2002 model car.
goodsidepic.jpg

Reg Riemer - for getting me interested in the 7M in the first place, even though he was putting it in his Mk2 body.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Anyway, I got my MKII because I figured it was cheaper and less time consuming that turboing my '82, plus... I doubt I could make my install look THAT clean.... That car is sweet.
