What keeps you from calling it quits?

Being an engineering student and working part time at an engineering firm, I value my time off for sleeping and relaxing. Working on a Supra is definately none of the above. I don't have the patience or will to have my car down for more than a couple days anymore. I've already had my Supra down for an extended period of time twice(the 89). Next time that happens, I'll probably be done. 3 strikes and I'm out.

If I can't drive it, there's no point in having it. It's fun and I like it alot but it's not any fun when it's not running.

consider yourself lcuky joezee, i'm almost never driving it

I definately understand how that is. You guys that have had your car down for years at a time have my respect(or at least fascination). I simply can't do it.

The first time it was easy since I was dorming at school and didn't need the car. The second time, I had to share my moms expedition with her for about 3 months. As far as I'm concerned, I've paid my non running Supra owning dues.:nono:

I don't expect anything really unfortunate to happen again but if it does... well expect a big partout from me or something.

When my white car went down for a dead brake booster, I couldn't stand not driving the car. My alternative was a Suburban, but none the less, If I cant drive it, it really gets to me.

Which is why my next car will be something relatively new. Owning a 20 year old car is a ton of fun, But this car just isn't practical if it is my DD.

What everyone else said, but mostly, and I can't believe noone has said this yet:

Because it's a Supra!!!!!

Yes it is a Supra, the car I have wanted since Drove a MkII so many years ago. It was brand new, I was 16, and that six cylinder was pure sex. I vowed one day I would own one, my way, period. I have modified many cars, trucks and bikes in my life, none stir me like the Supra except my 01 modded Banshee (which I can only ride ever so often)

True story, in January I bought another mustang (98 GT) of which I have owned several. I was going to sell one or the other. I drove it, and then sat in my Supra. I decided then and there that I would rather sit in the Supra in the garage with no motor, then drive a Mustang. My mind was made up then, and I am firm in my beliefs that these SOB stubborn ass cars are the SHIT!!!

YOU WILL HAVE TO PRY MY COLD DEAD FINGERS FROM THE STEERING WHEEL (OR SOCKET WRENCH) TO GET THIS CAR AWAY FROM ME!!

If you have ever had to drive another car, ANY other regular car, is why I drive a supra. Yes it has its flaws, but I would rather be driving my 20 yo, 6k hunk of metal, than a 15k brand new peice of no power fiber glass.

onejoezee, thats cool to hear you work at an engineering firm. It's fun and I learn a lot working at one aswell. What field does your firm work in?

Any ways, I think the main things that keep me from calling it quits with my supra (even though it's running amazing).. is the potential I see every time I take my lunch break in my car, thinking of all the little things I can modify or change. Even admiring the stock dash and the design that must of been put into it. Truely beautiful in my opinion.

Last of all, seeing what others have done and the dedication they have. A few cars I would have to mention that I find myself looking at time and time again are duane's and nate's from the NW here. Inspirational.

Civil engineering is my department's area.

I'm a "noise and vibration scientist." :)

one word: investment

no, I dont consider the car itself as an investment. I dont want to give up on something I have so much time, money, energy, blood sweat and tears into. I can assure you however, I dont think Im like most Supra owners. I could part with my car in a second if the price was reasonable. It is afterall just a car. When you've over 40 different cars you tend to get a little jaded.

Its a nice car, it isnt particularly difficult to work on, it has a uniqueness factor, it makes good power, and parts arent impossible to get for it. Pretty much just like my RA21....well except for the power part. ;)

It is my first car and there aren't anymore left out there. There are probably 10 that i have seen where i live, when i see one on the street or parked in a parking lot something gets to me. It is not something u would see everday, its a supra alright, but it is an MK3. If something happens between me and the car, i would definitely be on the lookout for another one...but it will be a turbo since i started out with an N/A

The some things that keeps me going and working on my Supra is that

*Most people in my high school at least once a week(but more often)always tell me "So Ryan, whats up with that Supra" and I never get tired of hearing that lol.

*The Sound of that Turbo Supra coming around the corner and scaring the shit out of people that are walking on sidewalks or outside at a fast food place:burnout:.

*This is my first car:love:.

*The 19 other mk3 Supras that are local. Even though I see at least 3 a day, I hopefully will be the 20th in my mk3 some day;).

Those are just some of the reasons even though I can keep on going:blah: lol.
