Tha Texas caravan from the southeast will have to swing by the Ken household and finish this car, so we can drag you along with us.

I'm afraid I'd be a little out of the way but I would always appreciate the help. Just CALL if you can't make it.:icon_razz
I'm still in a pretty shitty mood over my friend letting me down....again. That's ok though, he'll need help again sometime and I was the ONLY person who would ever drive all the way out to his house (he lives 75 miles away from everybody) when he needed something. Not anymore.

So here's what my wife did for me. I needed help getting the transmission and exhaust over the front end of the car. I wasn't real confident in my chain job so I was sweating it thinking if this motor fell, it would destroy my car and I'd have to start over. So my gracious wife pulled the engine puller back while I lifted to the end of the tranny and exhaust over the car. It was rather funny because she was in her good clothes fixing to go meet with a client or something, she's a realtor. Anyway, she was feeling all manly because she helped pull an engine.

As far as the engine bay. I don't know. I've got a huge mess on the driveway right now as it is. We'll see. The worst spot is the passenger side frame rail. Everything else is just a little dirty except where the power steering reservoir was and it's oily there. I wished I had a pressure washer.

Hoping to stab the other engine today also. :x:

Well after nearly 16 years of marriage it's cheaper to keep her. :biglaugh:

Well today I got a call from Dustin, my douchebag friend and he spent a good ten minutes apologizing and groveling. He apparantely had a bad day too....wtf ever, he still should have called. I'm over it but I'll keep riding the wave tomorrow at work just to annoy him.

So. I spent all morning prepping my gte for installation. I finished up brackets and what nots and then mated (giggidy) the motor and transmission. The neighbors 18 year old son was helping me and we managed to get the engine down into the bay but I can't for the life of me get the mounts to sit right. Another friend of mine came over this afternoon and we spent 2 hours trying to get the motor down on the mounts just right. It seems we can't get the motor back far enough. My engine hoist in butting up against my bumper as it is. So darkness fell and I called it a day. I work tomorrow so it'll be Friday before I can work on it again. I just have the motor hanging from the chain in the engine bay right now. I didn't have time for pics.
So hopefully Friday I'll get this figured out.

He has actually posted updates, and explained why there are no pics, so he is in my good books ;)

Well to be even better I walked outside half naked and snapped a couple of pics. Maybe I can earn a couple of happy dances. I'm also in a much better mood. Hot bath in the jet tub works wonders.

GTE engine hanging from chain inside engine bay. Can't get those mo fo mounts to line up.

Ken, You might want to try raising the motor back up and attaching the motor mounts to the motor, and try to sit it back down like that. Also, support it with a jack from underneath, and adjust your chain to tilt the motor how you need it. Sometimes getting it where it goes by yourself is a pain in the ass.

Jack up the back of the car, get it on jack stands in the rear, and blocks on the front wheels. Use a jack to jack the trans up to the mount and bolt her down. mounts will be lined up at that point. Good luck!

Already did most of what you said. I will do that with the mounts tomorrow.

Did it!:icon_bigg Didn't work. You know one of the problems I'm having also is the chain where it hooks on that hook at the back of the head. It keeps butting up against the firewall. I'll get it figured out somehow. I really hate leaving the motor hanging from the chain for this long (I'm a work). Worries me.

you really need a load leveler to pull the engine easily...

ah, somebody already said it, but PULL THE MOUNTS. The mounts should stay attached to the engine, not the chassis as in the chassis they are slots and allow easy drop in...

To pull em, get under the car and there is a hole behind the lower control arm to get access to em with a ratchet and extension. I know this means pulling the engine back out, but it will make life easier...

That is my plan for tomorrow, although I don't think I'll have to pull the motor back out. I'll just jack it up some more. I was also going to stop and look at getting a load leveler too. The motor came right out no problems, it's just being a bitch now.

I'll give you one side hint Ken. If you try to push on the motor to get it to move side to side, be careful not to push on the small line coming off the power steering resevoir. I think my hand slipped off the side of my res, and I hit tat line. Tubbie was the only one to appreciate that one.

Well, let's see. I've had an eventful day. I took Scott's advice about the motor mounts and it worked. I got that beeeotch in there. And may I add, All BY MYSELF. Zero help. I had to manhandle it a little but it's in there.
I accomplished this today.
Put transmission mount back on.
Plugged speedometer cable back in.
Tightened down the motor mounts.
Got the power steering pump on-I need to go redneck on my hoses to the reservoir though and do some cutting.
Hooked up the fuel lines.
Pushed the wiring harness back through the firewall and plugged in the ECU and HAC, gonna need some pictures of somebody's 'cause I can't figure out how the ecu and hac mount up.
Hooked up power brake booster.
Connected vacuum lines.
Replaced some big amp fuses in the fuse block and then swapped out the ignitor and resistor pack.
Reconnected manifolds to a/c compressor.
Put the belts on, but did not put tension on them. I need to switch fan clutches first.

I know it's dirty but I do plan on cleaning up nicely.

What I plan on doing tomorrow if I don't get called in to go fly.
Clean out the oil cooler and metal lines then install. Go find some hose for the oil cooler. That's gonna be fun putting that on.
Hook up power steering hoses to reservoir.
Figure out and install IC and piping.
Most important! Go buy some oil, powers steering and transmission fluid.
Try to figure out where all those extra bolts go.:dunno:

I do have some questions for yall. My cruise control, and accelerator cable seem too long while the transmission kickdown seems to short. Do I need to switch the cruise and throttle cable from my 87 turbo?
I've got a manual tranny throttle body on there that has been ghetto fabbed for a kickdown cable. I've also got a good auto throttle body that I got after the engine was put together and don't really want to have to swap them out unless it's absolutely necessary.

So now I'm off to the shower:icon_bigg :icon_bigg:icon_bigg
