Yea the 35r is a PITA to install all the fittings/housing bolts etc. We installed a straight -6 adapter for the waterlines and tightening the -6 line on was retarded.. like 5* of movement we could do with the wrench.

^^ This was a big project with the spool valve and many hours went in to it to make this work and have it flow the way it should. I had mentioned to Brad, if a normal person was to get that exact kit, they would have sent it back. (not that you're not normal Brad. ;))

Welcome to the world of customization. :)

Most 35Rs are meant for T3 footprints...its an option to get them with a T4 footprint instead. That explains the "fun" that came extra as well. Sure makes me appreciate V-bands even more. If only they didnt cost so damn much.

I'm curious..how much did all of this cost? Props for following through though, I'm quite curious as to how it performs!

OMG, I feel your pain with that oil return liine. I have the same manifold and GT35R turbo and I tried for days to come up with an idea of how to route it. I gave up and installed the old HKS long runner manifold and the routing was a little easier.

You poor bastard, that looks like it would have taken about 10 years off your lifespan getting that all bolted together. So are all gt35 turbos this hard to fit or just because your useing a spool valve.

By the way, is there a minimum RPM that the stock ECU needs to see before it goes into WOT open loop mode? How soon would be too soon to hit 15psi on this turbo?

WOT is wide open throttle. When you put your foot on the floor, the throttle plate opens as wide as it can. That is what WOT means. Maximum TPS voltage is sent to the ECU. And you will be in open loop on the stock TCCS. TPS is a correction to RPM and airflow. It tells the ECU your intention.

I know you are going to say I know.

"So are all gt35 turbos this hard to fit or just because your useing a spool valve."

There is hardly any space between the compressor housing and the turbine housing (at least on the Precision GT35), and with the right(wrong) manifold, it can be very hard.

The spool valve actually made it easier, by lifting the turbo up like a 3/4" spacer would. In the pic below you can see that there would have been no room at all for the oil drain normally. The problem with these turbos is the center is tucked too far into the turbine. Pretty common for most GT35r's with a T4 housing, since they first only came in a smaller T3.

The T3 housings that they come with are fine, its just when they are adapted to fit a T4 housing they dont fit well. For anyone in the future, just get a T3 housing turbine and weld a T3 flange onto your T4 manifold.

BTW ,Brad I finished your 3.5" mid pipe and intake pipe!

blah blah blah, RESULTS please... PS to test the diff between the two please run the valve open on hte first pass by using compressed air to open the valve for the whole dyno!

Yep, this turbo can be ordered with a Tial or T3 turbine, and would have been much easier. But to use the SP valve, the T4 was the only option for a divided turbine.

Zazzn: Don't worry, I'm on top of it ;)

Also! I thought I was the only Supra to try one of these HTA billet turbos, but I found a 1JZ car running the SMALLER version of my turbo, and making over 600hp at high boost :aigo: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80581 Looks like he is running the Tial turbine and E85 fuel (pic below)

I think 650+ is possible on a 2J or built 7M.

I drove the car with the new setup today; initial impressions are pretty amazing! For now I'm only on wastegate spring 10psi and the spool valve plumbed directly into boost so it begins to open at 5psi... and spool is still very fast! Much faster than my 57trim ct26 was! 1st gear hits 10psi in like 1 second. 2nd gear hits 10psi well before 4000rpm. I'll wait till the dyno till I try a full 4th gear pull, but it seemed to hit 5psi quite early in the powerband. It's pulling pretty damn strong for only 10psi so I think this turbo is right on the money. :D

Also, it is SO QUIET now! I'm surprised how quiet it is, even after swapping in this tubular manifold and 3.5" downpipe. It must be the spool valve acting like a silencer. I might have to pull out one of my 2 mufflers later to get some rumble back!

Ian, I hope you like it quiet. Your V8 will be 1/2 as loud with this thing!

Good info. Just for comparison, my GT35R(.68) made 15psi at 3400rpm in 4th gear (with a big ex manifold leak).

And yes 650rwhp with the right supporting mods is doable with that turbo.

I use a 150 shot for a spool valve.. but this seems far less drastic .. looks really good
