If it were me I'd have them Zyglo'd as well ;)

I was thinking the same thing.

This is a little different than a standard rebuild though, since the engine ran great when I disassembled it.

couple teaser pics!

bottom end off to the machine shop! the machinist visually inspected everything and said it all looks great. Of course, he still has to mic the pistons, and gauge the bores. He said the oil pump drive bearing "looks" good and will check it. Overall he said th block looks to be in great shape and said it should be nice when finished.

I'm opting to get the crank micro polished aswell, should still be within my expected budget.

of course, I'll be getting all of the measured values in writing aswell.

haha! thanks guys!

mk3 runner - completion time is before august, in the car, running. absaloute goal is to be broken in and kicking ass by the big supra meet in toronto...mid august.

vids will be taken most likely on the first start and first drive. in car, flybys, burnouts, probably dyno, drag racing and other sillyness as soon as she's broken in :D

haha ya tanya, funny enough it's working great for me too. my powersteering paint and valve covers is 100% intact and is almost 4 years old now...guess I can't leave well enough alone. If this shit doesn't stick I'm going to freak out.

Tom (cryo) - gloss black block, pan, brackets pump and pipes. Silver (aluminum), head, intake, afm, alternator and throttle linkage. Polished valve covers with black lines and letters.

I had origonally planned on polishing (and have mostly sanded) the intake manifold parts and alternator, but I've decided to keep it as low maintenance as possible, polishing only the stuff that counts. I think it will look clean and more uniform over a longer period of time with the good paint. Car is daily driven and I'd rather not be a slave to the engine bay.

I just cleaned my oil pump and the cressida oil pan. It's still yet to be painted. I inspected the oil pump as per the TSRM's directions with feeler gauges and everything is on the tight side of clearances...so that's good news! I plan on just replacing the bypass spring to insure the pressure is good. I got both the pump and pan free....thanks to supramania! :D

we all know everybody looks at these just for the pictures so here ya go!

umm....ew!

I forgot to take pics of the dirty oil pan, but it was black inside, looked like the oil pump. Here's the pan, since soaked down with wd-40 to prevent rust.

Good job so far. I'm glad to see you're taking your time and doing it right.

You won't be disappointed with the POR-15.

new toyota HG is on it's way...I had a closer look at the ebay HG I have...I think it's made of pure shit....I can't trust the thing.

AFM and intake bought from tubbie too! no more junkyard hunting for me now, just new parts!

I need to cut the useless stuff off my harness and re-wrap it/clean this weekend. can anybody tell me what size (diameter) split loom I need to buy? my harness is 1.5 hours away right now and I can't check the diameter. I'll need to buy it before I head home (where the harness is). Thanks!

everything looks good! nothing has cracks or is unsalvagable...pistons are quite round and in good shape! same goes for the cylinder walls!!!! after polishing, the crank looks like brand new. I painted the manifolds today aswell, hopefully they turn out ok.

here are the piston to wall clearances, after honing that the machine shop provided me. TSRM says 0.0031 - 0.0039 is good. looks like I'm in the perfect spot!

# amount in inches
1 0.0036
2 0.0035
3 0.0035
4 0.0035
5 0.0035
6 0.0032

time to order some more parts! There is tons of work left though...lots of polishing and painting left! at least I like doing it...
