My friends 45 XD is violent compared to my 1911.

Then again, my 1911 is a cadilac compared to my Walther P99 in 40s&w.

Its all a matter of what you're comfortable with, and what does and doesn't fit your hands.....

I picked up a box of .45 Black Hills 230 gr JHP's today at the range.

Seems like nice stuff. Shot about 1/2 a box of it after I ran out of hardball and it seems to be damned consistent stuff.

Anyone here have experience with Corbon stuff? I've heard good, and bad. Mainly people say it's pricey for what you get. I think a 135gr traveling at 1325ft/sec and hitting with 526ftlbs is a good combo, no? (.40cal S&W MP40)

You should have just bought more Black Talon ammo

I still have a few boxes, and my defense magazine has 15 of them always loaded up and read to go if needed.

Subsonic, teflon coated, and designed to open up and slice n' dice whatever they enter. The ultimate bullet in my opinion. (And with the lower power load, they are not as loud, or cause as much muzzle rise/recoil, so you are very likely to get multiple hits on target in a stress situation.)

The fact that they defeat most body armor is secondary IMHO.

I have some Silvertips, and Hydroshock ammo as well.

Ive seen some where there was a comparison of all the self defense rounds.....

I think the corbon was on the list. Maybe some one can find it?

Personally I go with Hornaday TAP or Magtech.

Winchester Hydrashock?

Hydrashocks and HST's (the newer JHP they make) are made by Federal.

I carry the newer HST's in 180gr JHP in my .40's and 230gr JHP in my .45's. The biggest bullet you can get in any caliber will have a slightly lower muzzel velocity than lighter ones and be less likely to be deflected by dense clothing/bone.

There are side by side comparisons of various types of carry ammo out there. Google is your friend.

But ultimately, its what you and your gun agree are the best round. Sometimes the pistol just won't eat it without some coaxing from a gunsmith.

Your mileage may vary.

I use speer gold dots in .45 acp. In other news..finally got my brother out to the range and he shot some guns for his first time. He got to shoot a USP45, Walther P22, Ruger .22, S&W .22 handgun, AK-47, Remington 270, so he got to shoot a lot of variety.
