I dont do any machining anymore but when I was first out of school most of the companies I gave my resume to cared more about experience than my schooling.

School is not experience...experience is on the job.

And duane you are correct you will get paid more...but also most shops will pay for you to take classes on cnc set up and basic program!! Shops get huge tax breaks for sending people to "school" (aka 3 day crash course)...

My point is...paying for school is retarded in the machining industry...just go work and get the education and advance by takeing courses the company pays for!

True, our shop pays for school too.

Yup...why in gods name pay for your own education when someone else will do it...there is always a job shop in need of a shop bitch...being a shop bitch isn't bad as you're always doing something diff...small/easy jobs on damn near all the equipment...always something new...unlike me who runs lathe every fucking day LOL

Knew I didn't describe it right LOL

How does the part circled in red attach to the part circled in black?

Yes I was that kid that took everything apart to see how it works. I can also put it back together and have it still work :D

I could take a pic of it being installed one by one but that would take time. lol

That part in red screw in the side of that other part in black. Anything else?

I have a custom rad too. Ron R designed a rad and was a one off. (now 2 off lol) He had a company make it for him which tucks under the rad support with 2 top feeds. (rather than a top and bottom, it is a dual pass as well!) I have a rad like that and is one reason why I have this part now. :)

Waiting for you to do something really crazy like a one off waterpump or something :D

lol

Ron is one reason why I do things like this. I see some things that he has done and it triggers new ideas. He has many one off parts on his car too.

No way! That was the plan I had for my car, but without the crazy machined parts. LOL.

I've always wanted to tuck the radiator deeper into the front of the car (more toward the nose) I had even gone as far as talking with a local shop that makes radiators to get the basic idea of it worked out.

I never got as far as you did (or Ron), and it's very unlikely that I'll take it to that extreme, either.

The custom feed looks fantastic! I can't wait to see it all mounted up!

The final part looks amazing! Definitely inspired me to consider something like this in the future.

I'd like to hear from an actual machinist on here becides me..

I'm with Duane on the certification thing. But that's just because that's how my employer works. However, I do see where you are coming from. I went from the lowest level of the company to a machine operator to a machinist and now a mechanical designer all without a degree. I do get paid for what I'm worth...to an extent. I would probably make at least double doing the exact same job at the exact same employer WITH a degree.

To those discussing mills for home: we have some Kent knee mills with 3-axis servos that would be sweet at home and for an ok price, $20k brand new.

PS - I hate the Hurco we have but it's from like 1990. The newer ones have better controls. I <3 our Mori though :)

Thanks, much appreciated. :icon_bigg

Remember, the OEM CPS and the OEM rad will not work with this.

Thanks guys. :)

The installed pics will be a while since I'm waiting for a small part to come back from the shop. I will revive this thread and edit the title soon. :)
