The guys that manufacture this turbo are pretty keen on fixing any potential issues with the product which is a really good sign,
I've supplied them with pictures and a description as to the issues i've encountered, with any luck they will use it to improve the product.

The important thing to note is they got all the main things right such as the exhaust housing design and there is no shaft play so far.

I'd like a bit of feedback from anyone else who has one of these turbo's, does your waste gate arm have movement in the wrong way as described in the pictures above?

Which line (in the link above) will I need for an oil feed line?

I'm trying to complete the parts for this T61 Oil Cooled Only Turbo. Currently I have the below selected as what I'll need to buy to hook up this turbo. Any other suggestions considerations? I am not sure about a coolant hose yet might just just use a black rubber one. I'd like to make sure I'm getting everything I need so i'm not looking for parts on the day of my install.

8 Flange Cast Stainless Steel block flange. 1/2" thread & Gasket
9 Flange Billet aluminum flange for bottom of turbo. 1/2" threads. & Gasket
6 8" Stainless steel line Male swivel and fixed 1/2" pipe thread used on oil return

i don't know if i missed it but how many miles have you put on the T61 paradox?

6000km, not sure in miles but i'm sure you can work it out.

---------- Post added at 01:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:31 PM ----------

not sure,

i used -4 feed line - teflon braided
and -10 drain line - rubber braided

Used a banjo setup on the block feed hole and the restrictor that came with it

I used a local hydraulic hose shop (Enzed)

i was lucky enough to have a spare set of factory hard oil lines, i took them to Enzed and said, make that flange fit this braided line. they cut the flange off, and silver soldiered/welded on a fitting to it and then machined the gasket surface (got a little warped in the process)

cost me $160aud in total. its got standard T4 oil flanges on the turbo, pretty much the garret standard.

No bolt on kit i could find online really appealed to me as they mostly looked like they were for NA-T and used the return line in the sump, i wanted to use the factory return line.

I think its also worth noting that i have upgraded the engine oil cooler and i run full synth oil, while the cars off the road I'm adding a thermostat system for the engine oil cooler.

Success, think i found my spool issue!

got my air compressor back from my parents place in the bush (lent it to them so they can pump up the tyres on the tractor etc)
my air pressure regulator arrived in the mail today, i used PVC caps with a air compressor fitting tapped and threaded into one of the PVC caps (blocked the piping off at the 3000 pipe)

put 5psi in there (using the regulator) and i heard lots of air escaping from the piping, one of the silicon reducers on the intercooler had a tear in it and was venting MASSIVE amounts of air, at 8psi was seeing a 3psi pressure drop over the piping,

the other leak is on the turbo "S" pipe which is admittedly still the factory hose, i'm sure ill get ALOT better response out of it once the leaks are fixed :)

cant find any other audible leaks other than those two but its nice to know i've found a issue thats easy to fix.

no i didn't..its been on my "todo" list for a while along side replace cooler pipes,

My car runs on a map sensor anyway so leaks don't affect AFR's in the same way it as AFM's

Map or not, it was a pure waste of dyno time. NEVER EVER go to the dyno if you haven't bothered to leak test. Its simply a waste, might as well throw your money out the window. Not trying to be an asshole, just something that needs to be stressed to you and anyone else who comes across this thread.

It wasn't a pure waste of dyno time, i did perform a leak down test before i installed the haltech(car didn't get driven for 3 months?) with a small tyre air compressor which didn't reveal anything, only at 30psi into the intake charge did i notice any kind of leak, before I fixed my leaks the spool is almost identical to what it is now. i adjusted the actuator pre-load even more which made a world of difference more than anything else. its still a big turbo and its got lag.

The tear in the coupler happened post dyno when i removed the intercooler piping. i could not find any other leaks apart from the coupler and im convinced the pssst noise i heard was just a leaking hose for the air compressor (before the regulator)

Yes I should have used my big air compressor before going to the dyno but it would have revealed nothing.. the tuner adjusted the bov on the dyno as well.

^Well that's good some things were accomplished lol. Dyno time is just so expensive, i wouldn't want anyone to waste it from a stupid boost leak. Surprised your couplers ripped so quickly, were you using Ebay ones or something? Though I have a few ebay ones that have lasted, the tclamps on the other hand...well that's another story lol.

Here it's about to get a damn sight cheaper if people are willing to travel a bit :D

nah the hose clamp dug in on a funny angle and sliced it, it wasn't a ebay one either :(

all the little and time consuming things were done on the dyno such as idle tuning, correction maps etc, a airleak only affects on boost, the tuner i use has a factory in the middle of a industrial estate about 25km from my house, they just built a big new freeway from my house pretty much to their front door. :)

Dyno time was pretty cheap.

Took the car out last night because it was nice and cold, it still takes time to build boost initially but once its on boost it increases exponentially instead of a linear boost curve like i've been seeing, at this point i don't expect any better out of it, its more than drivable now.

it'll be 2 months before I can replace the clutch and gearbox.

Hey guys,

my buddy just put this turbo on his car his car seems really lazy, and doesn't boost much of anything until about 5000 RPM. It was at a shop and I was trying to help him out with tuning. We couldn't get more then 1.1 bar of boost even with the WG not connected to a VAC line.

After reading all about this I'm thinking first he has a boost leak, and second it could be the WG leaking air as well. His results at 1.1 bar was 356 WHP and 299 tq I think. Really really lazy power curve made peak power at redline.

Anyways, I'll keep you guys posted on what this turbo will do once we do a pressure test on the intercooler pipes. If that shows nothing the turbo will come off and I'll tell them to inspect the WG flapper and pre load it to about 15 PSI.

Good info!
