No Ron. You don't have to remove the top bolts of the mounts.

Something else is holding it up. If you lift it a little and rock it back and forth, and side to side, you should be able to tell where it is pivoting. Which would tell you where it's hanging up.

I pulled my engine and trans together and had the front of my car up on the lowest setting of my jack stands. The back wasn't lifted at all.

One question. Have you removed the shifter? :sarcasm::naughty:

Yeah I didn't think so, but at this point I can't figure what else it could be. I did remove the shifter. Things are very loose. I can reach into the tranny tunnel from inside the car, underneath the tranny and shake the crap out of it. I guess I need a second set of hands to help with this. Thanks for the suggestion Ken. I will try it out.

:slap: Well don't I feel like a moron?! For some reason I had mistaken the subframe nuts for the engine mount nuts. What a dufus. ::focl:: Anyways, once I took the correct nuts off, the engine started to lift nicely. Should have pics of it soon.

Well, Ron.......I didn't want to second guess you; but, that's why I was asking if the motor mount studs were lifting out of the frame braces. :biglaugh:

It's all good. If that's your only mishap with the swap, you're doing REAL good!

Glad to hear she's on her way out now! :)

Please second guess me next time. :)

Well after that little issue, she's out!! Thanks for putting some doubt in my mind so that I was able to find it. Sorry to waste your time! :)

It was kinda nerve wracking as the hoist got higher and higher, but I just went ahead slow and steady! Now just have to grab the following from this engine and bolt them up to the new one:

- Alternator
- CPS
- Turbo
- Tranny/clutch( I may have to get a new one as I don't know the age of it)
- Engine mounts
- Starter

I'm sure there are a couple other things, but I can't remember at the moment. Hopefully I'll have some of it done by the weekend, but I gotta work Friday night & all day Saturday so we'll see.

Congratties Ron!

I'm a little over cautious; but, I put blankets on anything that I didn't want scratched and board/2x4's in front the a/c condensor so I didn't put a crank pully through it! Ha ha...

Figured I'd update this since it's been a week. Been struggling with getting some stuff off the pulled engine. First, the bolt holding the exhaust mani stay on the pass. side engine mount bracket is seized. I went at it with the impact wrench and several different sized sockets and each time it just rounded the bolt head. If I continue, there will be no more head to that bolt! :) Then I tried using the dremel and a disc to just cut the bolt head off. The disc broke! :( I put that aside for now and will leave it until later. Then when I pulled the turbo off I noticed a lot of oil around the oil pipe and seal. So I replaced the seal on the turbo and block. When I was tightening one of the nuts to the turbo, the bolt snapped. I hardly even got a chance to tighten it. Guess I'm gonna have to order a new set. Also, the bolt that holds the top turbo stay in place on the turbo snapped. Gonna have to be careful drilling this one out. Good news is that there is no play on the turbo at all and it spins freely. Yay! :icon_bigg

The other day when I pulled the CPS off, I noticed that the cover was broken around the screw holes and the packing was just rock hard and broken to many pieces. So I went ahead and ordered some replacements:

Got them in less than a day! :naughty:

Anyhow, as I suspected things are going slowly, but I think I'll have everything back together and installed right before the end of summer! :biglaugh: I'm really being optimistic when I say it should be another 2 weeks, but my wife just got a job that goes into the evening so taking care of the kids will chew into any free time that I already don't have!

Thanks for looking.

- Turbo - sorta check, gotta order some new bolts for the oil line
- Tranny/clutch( I may have to get a new one as I don't know the age of it) - should be next
- Engine mounts - got them both off and one on the new engine, just gotta get the exhaust mani stay off the other and I'll be good.
- Starter - will be installed before I drop the engine/tranny into place.

You got that engine pulled FAST!

Snapped studs in the exhaust mani SUCK.
After i snapped 2/4 turbo studs on the mani the machine shop prepped for me I remembered I had a good mani sitting around :)
But i loath to drill out those other studs...

FYI, the CPS cover, Arz makes a billet aluminum cover with stainless hardware, your choice of color.
In case that cover were to fail, now you know where you can get something tougher ;)

Thanks man. Not as fast as I wanted though. :)

It's actually 2 studs on the turbo. One that holds the oil line and the other holds the top stay. But yeah, its not gonna be fun to get them out. I'll try to get some pics up to show it.

As for the CPS cover, I'm really hoping this works. It should. It's new as well as the packing. I just installed it including the new o-ring and packing and it fits nice and snug. Tightened (not too tight though) everything up and it should be good. It was only $10CAD so that wasn't bad. The ARZ one looks nice, but I couldn't justify $60 for aesthetics! ;) Thanks for the heads up.

Nothing that exciting except I got those snapped studs out. Also, I test fitted the IC. Looks like I may have to adjust the height at which the coolant reservoir sits. For now I have removed it.

Next on the to-do list is:

- replace the leaky seals on turbo.
- install the sender for the new oil pressure gauge.
- swap the tranny/clutch/flywheel.

Looking good Ron.

My .02 is to install a new insert on to the Fidanza, and at least get a new disk. What does the pressure plate look like and what kind of clutch kit?

Thanks Ken. For now I'm just gonna get a new OEM disk. Already ordered it from DM. ;) The pressure plate looks ok. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for? I'll get a pic up tonight. That Fidanza will run me about $400 right? I really can't afford that right now. The right now is to drop the tranny again this winter to have it rebuilt. I will definitely change everything then.

Since you're pulling the transmission in a few months, you're probably ok on everything. A few months isn't that long...

For now on the pressure plate, I would just inspect the fingers for cracks/breaks. If you don't see any, run it!

As for the fidanza, $400 is the ball park price for a brand new Flywheel. The inserts are around $80. I think! ;) That insert will get you through the summer tho.

You're getting closer! :)

Cool. I'll inspect it closely and make sure it is good. I just didn't have the time to get the trans rebuilt this year. I want to be able to drive the car before snow hits the ground again! :)
