I know this wont make you feel better but my 85 was broken into years ago.

(pictures are on my website of the damages)

Well I was fairly well known in circles for custom audio and having access to lots of parts.

Well My car was broken into when it was stock colors. I repainted the car and a guy approached me with his brother about an amp he was having trouble with... Turns out it was MY DAMN AMP! I had had the same trouble as you had to special order the DIN cables. The asshats left the cables in my car when they stole the equipment. I talked to both for a while and never said a word.... They had a pile of my stuff and were selling it. My friends in the car were beside themselves they wanted mayhem (I was a different person back then) I spoke with the cops. I recieved no response of any type. They never recovered my equipment and didnt do anything to them as far as I saw..

I waited a nice time period and got some folks I knew together and lets just say that his car is a U-boat. Or as the italians say 'it sleeps with da fishes'

They did thousands of dollars in damage to my car (why it was repainted) cut damn near every wire under the hood (trying to kill the alarm) shredded my dash and the wiring. and vandalized my cds that were in the car.

Its been years (yep I was underage) but I still am amazed at how good that revenge felt...

oh and yes I sold him the DIN cables he needed for 3 times the cost (how do you think I found the house????)

Another thing you need to do is check your habits.

Are you dating a new girl in a neighborhood you never went to before (they followed me home from there)

Do you crank your stereo all over town and show off your stuff 'on the street' to folks you dont know?

Anyone hanging around a lot thats new? (my blazer was hit by a 'friend' who was caught in the act by a neighbor)

You may find that the fellows that did it live in range of your patterns.

hey, guys! how do you spot other mkiii owners!?

well since nobody is answering my question.....

look for keys and EFI fuses around their necks! (hey it was funny to me at the time)

anyway, i you can afford an intake system, dp, cat-back, mbc, etc - you can afford a decent alarm system. this should be one of the first "mods" you do. period.

I inspected the car last night further.

They had siphoned the gas out of the tank and stolen my gas cap as well.

I put a new battery and terminals on, filled up the coolant, and started it up. It didn't run well until I put a couple gallons of gas in. On my way to the gas station it stalled out a couple times and I ended up having to reattach the hardpipe to the bottom of the turbo, and that one's a bitch. I got it eventually fixed and drove it back home uneventfully.

So, to summarize to this point: Stolen wheels, stereo, battery and terminals, one ballast, a tank of gas, gas cap, and all my coolant. Bashed up tail lights and bumper.

Replaced battery, coolant, and gas/cap. Car ran but stalled; repaired turbo outlet connection, car runs alright, don't want to boost at all. Clutch feels strange and I think the dust shield is dragging on a front rotor.

Thankfully it seems to be mechanically sound still, not sure why the coolant was gone, but no sign of BHG or rod knock.

I guess it might have scared them when I chased them down so rather than joyriding and totally stripping it, they probably hid it overnight in their garage or something and grabbed what they could the next day.

man, it really does hurt to see your car in that shape...... :(

not wanting to sound like a smartass, but I don't think that pulling the EFI fuse (or interrupting power to the ECU by means of a switch) is such a good idea. the ECU will lose it's learned parameters and has to re-learn them from scratch every time the car is started. this can lead to stalling and waving RPMs in the first couple of minutes upon startup.
I think it would be more feasible to use the line going to the "neutral start switch" at the clutch pedal or the auto tranny's gear lever, respectively.
that way you are using the same mechanism that is keeping the starter from cranking if the AT gear lever is not in "P" or "N", or if the clutch pedal is not depressed on a MT (only on US cars IIRC).

if i created a kill switch, your right encomiast it would screw the ecu up everytime, but i would make it link with the starter somehow, so that even if the could unlock the wheel and hot wire it, nothtign would be there to crank over the engine. therefore no stolen car.

In my experience (the last 4 days) the EFI fuse kill switch works well. It only seems to get confused if you try to start it with the switch off, then switch it on or if you shut off the switch while the car's running.

I third (fourth?) the motion for a writeup on the EFI cutoff switch -- where are you guys tying it into?

As for the cop - Man, I would be raising some hell about that crap -- if a police officer or department is allowing that kind of crime to go on without doing anything about it, they are not doing their job.

we prolly wont be messing with the EFI switch sence the car will run like shit for like 5min on start because its relearning your driving habits. I'm going to try and do something with the starter or where the alarm turns the car off(hook in with the stock system).

Hmm... that sucks. What about running some thin, lightweight wire to a relay attached to the fuel pump itself?

It wouldn't have to be a heavy guage, because it would only have to carry enough current to trigger the relay, which would complete the circuit on the fuel pump.

Or maybe even splice into the wires in the front of the car that run back to the pump... though I don't know how hard that would be.

I personally like the idea of cutting of the fuel instead of the starter, because if it doesn't crank over then a smart thief would probably know something was up -- whereas if it started and then died, they would probably just think the car was a POS and move on.

BTW, best of luck with your car, man -- I hope the cost of repairing the damage ends up being minimal.
