About to order an ATI super damper and Titan Cam gears from suprarich... should be a nice addition. i also got in the GB for the poly trans mounts.

Last week was engine bay decreasing Part 1. i also replaced the PS high pressure line and fabbed up some of the new oiling system lines. Rewired the cps with a universal trailer hitch plug on both the cps and harness. Tomorrow im gonna run some wiring for the new oil pressure and temp gauges and run a new maftpro boost solenoid harness (since the connector on my old one broke). Also some more decreasing....

Between school and work, im only left with one full day and a half a day to work on the car.
Talked to the machinist and the block should be done wednesday or so. Head should be done by friday... hopefully. If all goes well, i should have the car running in a few weeks. Im also gonna drop off the flywheel to be resurfaced. Any tips to getting it off.... alone?

So I shouldnt use an 88mm bore MHG with .040 over pistons?

Thanks for everyones help
-Pete

you can get away with it but the more material between cyls. the better..

of course the stopper is backordered for 3 weeks. and i just picked up the engine from the machine shop.
i was a little concerned with the deck finish.... there were 2 or 3 little black "pits" on the deck. what effects if any could result from this?

Depends on exactly where they are Pete.

the pitting goes about .25mm to .50mm below the deck surface. they are black little spots on the deck. doesnt look like its a result of machining....
other than the HKS stopper, which MHG compares to the quality and sealing properties?

I'm pretty sure Ian was asking where they are in relation to the cylinder bores or cooling passages, etc... :)

I don't think any gasket can compare to the Stopper, but Cometic is the most forgiving as far as surface imperfections, but still very strict compared to composite gaskets

i also had a few questions about the mhg that i have. i was talking before about how i got an 88mm titan mhg (so i was told). i finally bought a digital caliper yesterday just to have and i measured the bore of the gasket... it is 84.54mm according to my measuring skills. i measure the bore of the cylinders and i got 83.97mm.
will the gasket i have work on my motor?

i was also a little concerned about the condition of it when i first opened the packaging for the gasket. i know mhgs are composed of several layers of metal, but the one i got seems as tho they are seperated.
is this normal?

last but not least..... im pretty sure that the titan mhg is a renamed cometic mhg. i read that you have to drill out the rivets for proper fit and functioning.
what locations do i have to drill? if its not too much to ask, circle them on the pics ive posted.

thanks

i'm not sure if you would call the separation "NORMAL" but when i got my engine gasket set for the 1J the metal was separated to an extent

Pete: Pits are fine none shown will compromise the sealing.

Yes the 84.54mm will work fine.

There's only 1 (one) that needs to be removed it's at the front right side, sit the gasket on the deck and you'll see it.

I use a pair of small wire cutters to squish the end of the rivit and pull it through it's safer than drilling it.

my ati super damper came today and i notices it came in two pieces. i guess the extra piece is for the AC. does anyone know how or if i should do it myself? this particular component of the motor i feel uncomfortable messing with considering it keeps everything in harmony.

Why do your probe pistions have "dings or dents" in them??? I looks like there were dragged down a gravel road.

those are cp pistons..... and i sprayed down the deck and pistons with wd40 and cover it with a rag to keep it clean. so i guess they look weird. before i slap the head on, i will clean it up and take a few nice pics.
