What were the Probe issues Pete?

the issues werent really with the probes themselves, but rather the block. i finally found a block that was bored to .020 over. but when i brought it to my machinist, he said that the tolerances were close to the extreme. he said if he did the machining, he would aim to have the piston to bore clearance right in the middle of the spec. the block i got was at the high end of the tolerance which he didnt recommend. i dont want to risk anything down the road so i decided to go with the next sized piston.

hahaha... i know man. i used to drive with big rims, but ive been through too many sets and want to use my money elsewhere. once this build is squared away, im def gonna buy a new set of 17x10 for the rear and 17x9 up front. i prob wont put them on till after the winter tho.
my suspension is pretty decent, but after i get the megans on, ill be good to go. ill let you know once the motor back from the shop. you can stop by and help if you want.

Just ordered a Shaftmaster 1-piece Aluminum DS and Powerslot Rotors along with various Redline Fluids (Tranny, LSD, and Motor Oil).
Any recommendations for what oil i should use to break in the new motor?

Any crap 5w30 non-synthetic oil you can find at the gas station or walmart. I even went so far as to get 30w non-detergent oil to break an engine in that i built before. Good luck!

Hmm..I was told by a few engine builders that non-detergent oil is fine for engine break-in. I only used it the first 50 miles after i had done the initial start-up oil change. After 50 miles I changed to 5-30 dino. Worked fine for my engine :dunno:
Whats wrong with non-detergent?

Hey pete great build so far.
Where did you get the poly motor mounts and torque damper
and did you decide to get your flywheel resurfaced, or go with the lightweight flywheel?

Excellent reasoning...glad it worked for you and you have the overwhelming evidence to prove it. "I heard" and it "worked for me" are very compelling. ;)

Personally, I will never let a non-detergent oil touch my engine...well, maybe my lawn mower. Wait, I don't have a lawn mower.

Thanks. i got the mounts and damper from becauseican, he is a local vendor here on supramania. check him out. he makes a bunch of great parts for our cars. randy is great to deal with and very honest.
as far as the flywheel goes, im not sure what i want to do yet. im probably going to get it resurfaced because i dont think the benefits of a lightened flywheel outweigh its disadvantages. plus i just ordered an aluminum ds so my drivetrain has already had some weight cut off. i just dont know where i should get the flywheel resurfaced. anyone have a good source i could send it out to? or can my machinist do it?

Stock bore is 83mm...0.040" over is 84mm.

An 86mm MHG is fine ;)

crap, the one i ordered is 88mm. i didnt know you could safely bore a 7m over .040 over. i wonder what an 88mm could be used for.

About to order an ATI super damper and Titan Cam gears from suprarich... should be a nice addition. i also got in the GB for the poly trans mounts.

Last week was engine bay decreasing Part 1. i also replaced the PS high pressure line and fabbed up some of the new oiling system lines. Rewired the cps with a universal trailer hitch plug on both the cps and harness. Tomorrow im gonna run some wiring for the new oil pressure and temp gauges and run a new maftpro boost solenoid harness (since the connector on my old one broke). Also some more decreasing....

Between school and work, im only left with one full day and a half a day to work on the car.
Talked to the machinist and the block should be done wednesday or so. Head should be done by friday... hopefully. If all goes well, i should have the car running in a few weeks. Im also gonna drop off the flywheel to be resurfaced. Any tips to getting it off.... alone?

So I shouldnt use an 88mm bore MHG with .040 over pistons?

Thanks for everyones help
-Pete
