She OK?

Yesterday I saw something I never wanted to see. I was heading to el campo from San Marcos and before I made it to luling I ran into a head on accident. I was about the 8th one on the scene. I could see one of are other drivers running to the accident with his fire extinguisher, So I drove all the way up to the accident and jumped out with mine. It was a silverado and a trailblazer. The lady in the silverado Had already got out she was banged up pretty good but nothing serious. I saw the trailblazers front end and I didn't want to see what was inside. Our other driver was trying to put out the fire coming from the engine bay. so I ran over to help I took a peak at the lady in the other car and she didn't look bad, but she was trapped in the car. He handed me his fire extinguisher and went to go help free the lady. They were able to pull her from car and layed her on the ground. I keep the fire down until both fire extinguisher were empty. Then the fire took over I told them that I was out and we would have to move her. So when I go to help lift her up, I see the her freaken tibia sticking 4-5 inches out of her leg, and Her ankle and foot was just hanging there. That stuck with me all day. I could not shake the image.

Just the day before I was telling some friends of my girlfriend, about all the things I see on the road. I told them I had seen to much and no longer like to help out. Then this happens. Don't know if the lady made it. The had only a faint pulse when the paramedics got there. Just make you take a step back and think about life.

This concludes our therapy session.

Today went to my friends to use his welder to tack the DP is was fixing. Tomorrow morning I'm going to mock it up and see if that'll do it. I'll have to drag down my desktop PC to the garage to load up a fuel table to my MAP ECU. Monday morning I'm going to finish welding the DP for good. That's my plan so far.

David, still need me to come and check out the damage on your GF's car? I might be free tomorrow.

Progress today. Finished up my downpipe earlier this week. I just put it on, and it's a good fit. Screwed in the O2 sensor, and plugged it in. Dragged my desktop down to the garage to load up a fuel table on my MAP ECU. I tried to adjust my TPS values and really didn't have any luck. I have to look further into that.

I gave it a shot and started it up. It started and idled around 400-500rpm. I'm thinking since the ECU sat for around 10+ years that could be part of the low idle. It eventually warmed up and the idle started to pick up a little to around 550-600rpms. Then I noticed a little coolant leak somewhere under the intake manifold. I'll have to find and fix that.

It was running rich all the while, and when I tried to give it a little throttle it would die. I'm thinking my MAP ECU have something to do with it. I'm gonna go to their forums and get some tech support. I'm hoping it's not my TPS. We'll see.

All in all it ran smooth under the hood with no ticking, or knocking.... yet. I'm happy.

It's gotta be the MAP ECU. I was thinking of running it with the stock afm and see what's up. But I'd have to fab up a pipe and all. I'm communicating with MAP ECU Man on their forums for some support. He'll probably reply Monday or so. I don't expect him to reply over the weekend.

Oh it does!

Ok, here's an update. Apparently the IAC valve needs to pull vacuum. Originally it was routed in the accordian pipe between the AFM and turbo. Now that I'm eliminating the AFM I don't have it hooked up to anything currently. It's just open to atmosphere. I was only pulling -9 to 10 in. Hg's. When I would blip the throttle it would drop to around 5 in. Hg's then die. From under the hood I put my thumb on the IAC pipe and throttled it with the other hand and it sounded a hell of alot better. Then second I let off the throttle with my thumb still plugging the pipe it dies. Since I was on the outside of the car I wasn't able to see if the vacuum got any better.

I guess I need to fab up an intake pipe with filter with provisions for the IAC, and PCV ports. If I do this do you think it'll pull more vac?

Ok, I put a little K&N filter on the IAC and the vacuum went up to 15in/Hg. I remember back in the day it used to pull 21-23in/Hg. I'm still getting hesitation when I get on the throttle. The little coolant leak has magically disappeared. I still have to find out where it was coming from cause it will show its ugly face again.

Another problem. It will not go into any gear at the moment. I swear I put the flattest side of the clutch disc to the flywheel. I'm suspecting it's my clutch slave cylinder. I've always had problems with it 10 years ago. Now I think it's not pushing the shift fork. I'll take off the inspection cover tomorrow and see what's going on in there. Plus it leaks. Every once in a while my car use to go dry of fluid in the clutch cylinder and I'd have to fill and bleed it. More to come tomorrow.

David, you gonna go pull an EGR valve from it?

I've got CEL codes 24 & 52.
24 - Intake air Temp Sensor Signal. I think I may have my resistor on the wrong pins. I'll have to move them and recheck the codes.
52 - Knock Sensor Signal. Time for a re-wire. I'm hoping that's all it is. It looks like it's been done before, but now the wires look bad. I don't know why my lazy ass didn't do it while the engine was out and I had easy access to them. I can still get to them, but it would have been much easier to do without messy around with the intake manifold in place.

I need to buy clutch slave cylinder *cough cough* David.
Soon guys, soon. It'll be on the road. I almost gave up on it just before saw this San Antonio forums, and met you guys. It was sitting in the garage collecting dust, with a rebuilt shortblock wrapped in plastic on the stand. I was close to scrapping the project and selling it to a co-worker for peanuts. All of you guys have really helped me out with parts, knowledge & know how, and razzing me to get it done. Special thanks goes out to (in no particular order) Michael, David, and Darrell for helping me out along the way. You guys have been awesome.
I just hope this engine can stay together long enough for our family to enjoy it. My wife was excited when I started it up. It's got its quirks right now, but she knows that I can fix them. I'm really suprised she is sharing my happiness with this car cause she was the main reason I was going to sell it. She kept nagging me to get rid of the "damn thing."
BTW, I took a vid of it idling and was going to download it to youtube and share with you guys. Only thing is my son appears in the vid and she's really against exposing my son to anybody who can see the vid. I don't blame her so I'm going to shoot another vid without him in it and share with you guys soon. It's lame... just my car idling right now nothing special. I'm sure you guys have seen a Supra idling.
