I'm looking for a place to freshen up a bottom end and resurface a head. I don't have a place to work on an engine anymore (living in an apartment). I found a complete gte short block in houston for $500, just need to get the money up for it. I understand it would be massivley underpowered, but do ya'll think. It would be drivable to run a gte block with a ge topend till I can afford the turbo accessories? Its killing me not having a place to work on something.

Instead of rebuilding the 7m, and then nickle and diming your way to turbo it have you considered an engine swap? By the time you add everything up you're going to look back and think, "Damn... I should have gone 2J in the first place."

Yes, I have considered a full swap, the only issue is, I cannot feasibly afford it until the beginning of next year. With the head gasket needing replacement already, I would rather just do a full bottom end rebuild (since I do not know how well this engine has been cared for) while I am in there. I can work on the car on base at the Auto Hobby shop, but thats going to require me to be able to do it rather quickly. But if anyone has any economical suggestions, please, fire away, I appreciate everyone's input.

If your coolent didn't mix with your oil I would just go with a oem headgasket, and arp bolts. Just take your head to get checked and shaved if needed. Then save for a rebuild or a swap.

True, I could go that route. Actually, that's what I'll probably go with. I checked today and coolant hasn't infested the oil yet. I just need a few days of downtime to do it now. Fortunately, since I dont work, I won't be hard pressed for a car. I just really dont want to deal with the hassle of doing it on base lol

my car sprung a leak and it could be the coolant block or the 90deg hose under it or THE FUCKING TIMING CASE COVER! if its that timing cover again i will be almost out of control mad.

I don't see why it would be your timing cover. You used OEM Toyota gaskets and did it right. It's been a couple of hours now. Did you figure it out?
On another note, I changed my wifes expansion valve on the Accord and recharged it with freon. Success! A/C is working again. Now that I'm over that hurdle I'm hoping by the end of this month I can get my car on the road legally. I hope.

Speaking of which, I think I'm going to take the car out again and continue to "properly" break in the engine. I'll just keep it on the farm roads behind me and within the speed limits.
