where is the oil sending unit on the 2jzge? if its on the exhaust side why not just tee off of that for the oil feed instead of using a sandwhich plate and long as line from the other side of the engine?

I don't think that it would flow enough oil to properly lube the turbo and provide an accurate oil pressure reading. I'd rather just get the oil sandwich plate and have peace of mind.....

J: Were the mixtures changing with the Methanol?

Yeah, when the nethanol kicked in, it would run rich. I got all of that straigtened out. I probably should have done like Mark suggested and just rebooted the computer and seen if that helped any. Car seems to be running good at the moment. Hopefully it'll stay that way.

The copper gasket on the manifold was playing tricks with my eyes. I thought the manifold was warpededed...........:aigo:

You can also use the lexus bolt from an IS300 Mark, and the line can go around the block. All boostlogic NA-T kits come with those.

Hit a snag today as I started to install the top feed fuel rail. There were three allen head bolts supplied that connect the pedestals to the rail and they were too short. Second, it seems as if the correct AN fittings weren't provided. Well shit, it looks like I'll have to shell out some frogskins to get the lines sorted out.....

Also, I want to cap off a bunch of unnecessary vacuum lines coming off of the intake. I'm running Stinger, so I don't think that they're needed.

What about the vacuum lines that come off of the bottom of the throttle body, connects to the metal lines which then run into the intake manifold? What are they for?

So, apparently these are the only sensor that Stinger uses from the stock harness:

  • igniter
  • #2 cam sensor (towards flywheel)
  • crank sensor
  • coolant temp (on bottom of radiator?)
  • injectors
  • air temp sensor
  • TPS

That's a lot of lines I can trim out. I'm going to have to do some harness work, the top feed rail doesn't leave a lot of room for the harness (as you can see above....)

Update:

For those of you that don't read the 1JZ/2JZ section, I fragged my 1JZ not too long ago. With that said, I've found a lot of things wrong with the 1JZ.

The #1 piston had next to no compression. When I pulled the head off, it looked pretty good and there wasn't any scaring on the cylinder walls. Strange.

As I pulled the harmonic balancer today, I found a hole in the lower timing belt cover. The HB had caused the hole by rubbing it. It looks like crank walk.

Also, the timing belt tensioner wasn't being a tensioner. At All. The shaft was fully retracted, not even touching the tensioner wheel.

Something bad happened, but I haven't determined exactly what happened first to cause the other things to happen. I guess it doesn't really matter, there will be nothing at all from the 1JZ that will be transfered to the 1.5JZ except the manifolds. Everything else will be new.

wait....i'm a bit lost, so you killed the 1j or the 1.5j?? I'm hoping you killed the 1j and are still working on the 1.5.

I'm also looking into this build, are you still using the stock internals from the 2GE? I was wondering if it'd be better to use the stock 1j pistons.

Personally I'm thinking about building the block or trying to just stuff 2jTT internals into the GE block.

I blew the 1j. The 1.5 is just about ready to put in, hopefully within the next two weeks. I just haven't had any time to work on it.

I used the stock GE internals with a 2.5mm MHG.

Finally, after a two month hiatus, I made some progress today. I finished the engine harness, which included splicing in the injector clips making a few other revisions so I could fit the top feed fuel rail.

I had to shim the alternator. for some reason, it didn't line up with the rest of the pulleys.

As soon as I get the AC compressor off the old motor and on the new one, I'll be ready to pull the old motor and drop the new one in.

Great job so far Mark. I wish you lived closer so I could help you out. I'm one of the best flashlight holders in the world.
