I love how people think "cops" are something other than average everyday people. Its just a job people, no different than your job. Why cant the average cop be a "car guy"? Do you think cops start off as blank slates and the state then has to train EVERYTHING back into them? A good number of cops are auto enthusiasts as they do essentially drive for a living. Also, since they come into contact with more vehicles in a day than you or I ever will it doesnt take long to see more than one of just about everything.

Do you really think your supra or mr2 is the first one they've seen? :nono:

I come from a land down under
Most of the Cops I know are either Car or Bike guys and NOT Angels ;)
(It's all a game and they have the advantage of having the other team's playbook)

Figgie, not 'they' - this one officer in particular. I SERIOUSLY doubt California is spending the money to educate officers on all the various engines/chassis configurations available ;)

They have Vin Diesel doing seminars ;)

Who's to say the cop doesn't like supras, or maybe even owns one himself?

Then he's a compete wanker for writing out the ticket to a fellow Supra owner.

The bullshit you guys have to go through over there almost makes making $12 a gallon we pay seem worth it.

i had a friend who has a modified NSX with a full kevlar bodykit so it looks crazy. he got pulled over one day and was asked to pop the hood... well under the 'hood' is just a battery... he told the cop his nsx was a 'hybrid' car...

and the cop believed him... so yeah... some cops may be car guys, but some are just a little on the not so educated side...

I second that! I had a state cop pull me over for basically no reason. Said me front parking lights were too white (lol ok). He then proceeded to check my other lighting. Had me hit the brakes, turn signals, reverse lights. He then came back with a ticket saying my back up lights can't be white haha. I asked him to show me what happened when he put his car into reverse....felt good making a cop feel like a complete retard!

C'mon, he's just doing his job. Owning the same model of car doesn't make you a part of some special club and immune.

I paid $3.79 a gallon the other day for my fill up, and even though there's emissions testing here in my county I'm exempt for having a pre-OBDII car. Enjoy paying over 3 times as much for fuel, though!

This never happened, and you know it.

Or maybe after seeing enough cars (since it's his job and all) he's picked up a few things here and there.

You do have the right to a speedy trial. Use this to your advantage. You can ask for a dismissal if you're feeling brave because the state hasn't given you any way to prove that you've taken care of it.

You can also try to take pictures of a very similar looking car and try your luck submitting them as evidence (if it goes to trial) and that you've rectified the problem. But you can't because the state has it's $$$ issues. Please note that if they call your bluff you are royally fucked and likely will be held in contempt of court for lying to the judge.

Good luck bro. Next time you'll want to look up the laws (and loopholes) before you modify a car in California. You're now on the books as having an illegally modified car and it's up to you to prove that it's legal before they'll let you re-register it. You're also opening yourself to more tickets in the future if you don't abide by the law.

It sucks, to be sure. You can either fight to change the laws (not going to happen in that hippy-filled nanny state) or move if you want to keep your car as it sits. Good luck!

well ive talked to rob at 935 and he gave me some good advice. i may have figured out a loop whole but ide rather not make it public. for those of you who really need/want to know for your own knowledge, im more the happy to reply to a PM.

anyways. at this point i just need to wait for my ticket to be processed into the courts system before i can make my move.

the system is not fool proof. there always a way out.
