Uh, that'd be fool proof, and there's plenty of proof that it's proof against fools when they want it to be. ;) PM me with your "out" if you don't mind.

I admire your commitment though. I would never have thought of leaving the state just for my car. That a rare, astounding and quite possibly perverse kind of dedication. :D

I got through about 7 pages of this bullshit and couldn't read anymore. So much cluelessness and bullshit.

Here's the deal in Calif in short:

You can swap in a same year or newer motor of any kind, as long as it was an engine available in the US, and it has all the original smog equipment and it is safely installed.

Take it to the B.A.R. and have it inspected and they will issue you a compliance certificate. Call the B.A.R. and they will verify this, they even publish a little pamphlet on the subject. Very simple.

Now if you had a 1jz you'd be fucked as they were never available in the US.

That's the facts Jack.

apparently you didnt read enough. CARB is closed thus he cant call and confirm this and cant get it ref'd. You arent the first person to suggest it either.

some people think its stupid and others like yourself think its astounding. obviously its a little more personal then that. after loosing my beloved 86.5 i just had to have another one.

i worked very hard to get this car and myself to where i am today. between paying off the loan for this car and paying of credit card bills for upgrades its been very hard but i will stick with this car. there are just so many hours of blood (a lot of it), sweat and tears put into this. i cant really just say its just a car anymore.

I was just kidding... I'm not far from that level with my car. I've got thousands in it, got it for $300 (I really should have just let them crush it) and it's still N/A.

Just so you're aware, there is not one thing that will guarantee you an out of this ticket. Whether you move, sell it or otherwise those actions have no effect retroactively. The state ref is the only possibility and it is only a possibility. In most states, the car was still supposed to have been inspected PRIOR to seeing any road service (haven't looked at CA's requirements completely so I'm not sure if they grant a grace period, but as it's safety related I highly doubt it). Sure, there's always the possibility that you might get someone who's feeling generous or perhaps you will say just the right thing to dissuade the assistant DA or perhaps the judge, but don't count on it, that's just foolish.

I don't know why everyone on here keeps going back to the whole "claim ignorance" thing... It doesn't usually work and if you're caught you're definitely screwed. Suck it up, pay the fine and get the car legal so it doesn't happen again.

There's laws not unlike that in just about every state... CA's the only one that REALLY, REALLY likes enforcing them. I mean, sometimes I think they get off on it in a very icky, East German fetishist kind of way. :aigo:

I wouldn't live in that state for $5million a year!

+1

Well, for that kind of cash I suppose I could fly out every night to a second home elsewhere.

moving to a different state because of your car seems a bit extreme and obsessive to me.

I'm sure its not just because of the car. Everything down here is the same way, it became very overpopulated very quickly and as far as i can feel Cali became anti-freedom, anti-human rights state. If it used to be the outlet for those who want progress, and freedoms this time has passed, now most people know and think about things they can't or shouldn't do, rather than what they can or want to do . Its not the land of opportunity anymore, it's not the mountain of gold either. Its more like a zoo and everyone is in cages. The car problems like that are only a small portion of everyday crap.

So are you subjects?

Or is your government representative of the people?

Sounds more like the former than the latter.

P.S. - This did not belong in General MKIII - moving to Off-Topic.

california is a shitty state plain and simple, great scenery but its full of illegal aliens, shitty drivers, nazi government groups who ban anything fun but let the starlets do coke and have gangbangs.

BTW There are some intelligent officers even in GA, I live in southeast Missouri, I am in the police academy almost done, and guess what I can spot a 2jz, 7M, 1JZ, etc so don't make assumptions guys.

CA SUCKS!!!!!!

Emissions are retarded, its cool for 18 wheelers to make the smog they do, and the big jets, etc but your lil toto is just killing the planet, tell it to haliburton or exxon

Jealous?

Besides, gangbangs are only illegal in a couple states. Generally that one escaped the books... unlike oral. :(

Sure. A manufacturer must get a replacement automotive part CARB certified for it to be a legal addition to a vehicle. Clone or not, unless they've done the required testing and paid the required fees it's not legal.
