I tend to think the nameplate should be left alone.. The LF-A is a worthy successor and can take it's niche and continue on as far as I'm concerned.

Toyota invested way too much time and money and scrapped the development of the LF-A at least once, if not more. It really was an experiment, and I think they only decided to release it to show they had their hand in motorsports for the last decade.

I'm going to buy one of these FT86/FR-S and swap a motor I feel to be worthy into it. Whether that leads me to a JZ or a ZZ remains to be seen, but I won't put much more faith into Toyota beyond that...

...My next car will likely be the last sports car I'll tune, not because I won't want to tune another, but because it will be damn near impossible.

From what I've read, I don't think a conventional motor will fit under the hood. It's too low to fit anything other than a boxer engine layout. STi motors are no slouch though.

I think, unfortunately, tuning will get very difficult, and then become easier again once petroleum engines are replaced by electric. Have you seen what can be done with electric R/C car motors? It will go from turbo kits and nitrous to battery and electronic motor controller upgrades. Motor swaps won't go anywhere either.

The only downside is the cool noises won't be there anymore...

Yep, not going to put an I6 under the hood of the FT-86 as the boxer motor is flat and short. Nice low center of gravity with the boxer too. The subie motor isn't bad at all, so if they do a turbo version (which should be easy as it's basicly an off the shelf part from subaru) it's going to be a winner.

And high powered electric cars do make cool noises :)

uh.....no...

One would have to be blind to not notice the LF-A was based directly off of the MKIV's bodylines.

We know for sure that the Supra was always a luxury model, so if it was made today it would be a Lexus. But, like the Integra becoming the RSX because of naming conventions of the brand, the name Supra doesn't fit with the Lexus naming scheme.

uh....no once again..

if anything the Ferrari 599 looks more like a Supra

if you say that is far-fetched, that it only resembles the car slightly, and that any basic RWD sports car will have similar lines due to the set-up, then YOU have proven my point...

Finally, SOMEONE else sees it!

And Grim, when you put them side by side like that, I can also see a little bit of Z32 in the canopy of the LF-A. However, you've pretty much settled my mind...

That looks more like the GTR.

Hmmm?

While the GTR is a nice car, it's huge and ugly. It looks more like a POS Charger in traffic (no, really, they're that big). I was sitting next to a GTR at a light and looking UP at it in my stock suspension MKIII.

I don't see why they couldn't take the FR-S platform, extend it a bit, maybe widen it, change a bit of the styling, add a 6 cylinder motor (Subaru has some nice turbo flat6 motors) and call it a Supra.

I'm hoping for the best for the FR-S, it should be interesting to see what happens with the aftermarket. Seems like STI motor swaps are in the works from a few tuners, in which case you can have a 500+hp car pretty easily.

Gentlemen, I was saying the Ferrari looked more like the GTR. I didn't say that the LFA did at all.

There's no need for 2 extra cylinders in the FRS. Will just be more weight and hurt fuel economy. It will be direct injected (and port injected), have dual VVTi, and Wideband type fuel control. ( all new Toyota's around 05' have this. Most other manufactures too.) This will allow higher boost, compression and cam/ignition timing. It will also make the engine easier to tune for more power out of the box.

im sorry but a 400k plus supra will not save Toyota in this economy if they bring back a rwd sports car it should cost around 17k depending on options to compete other wise were all just dreaming of a car that will sit on are walls rather then are drive ways
