It's been a while since my last update, mainly because I've been enjoying the car too much to take it back apart for the next round of mods. However, this time it made my decision for me. For no apparent reason other than my bad luck or possible abuse before I bought the engine, my almighty 2JZ decided to develop a slow leak in the headgasket from the combustion chamber to water jackets. It's minor enough that I could continue to drive it to work each day with the A/C blowing cold as long as I checked the water level and topped it off occasionally. It only ever shows any real signs of a problem when climbing steep grades at low RPM for long periods of time. Regardless, I'm not taking any chances of causing further damage and it's been parked for the last couple of weeks. Between me being pissed at my luck and work keeping me busy, I haven't found the time or motivation to even pop the hood until now.
I've started collecting parts for the headgasket repair:
ARP studs
OEM headgasket
and all other gaskets and seals required
Rather than just pulling the head, I'm yanking the whole engine out. The wiring harness needs a few finishing touches which will be easier with the engine on a stand where I can actually build the harness in place and make it all fit nicely, and while the engine is out, I'll be making a few changes under the hood. My plans currently include a wire tuck, ABS removal, a good cleaning, and possibly paint.
Other additional changes I would like to make to the engine include a fully rebuilt USDM head (for later addition of smog equipment), USDM 550cc injectors and resistor pack, and possibly some mild cams.
Needless to say my Supra won't be making Vegas this year. However by spring, it should be a lot of fun.
I'll post updates with pics as I go.
