Don't worry Miguel, my wife loves me and therefore loves my car by association...........:biglaugh:

I took some measurements this morning after putting my head back together. Actually all I had to do was install the cams.

Here are the measurements I came up with using a set of micrometers. This is how far each valve sticks down below the head when fully opened.

E1 .256
E2 .255
E3 .263
E4 .273
E5 .263
E6 .257

I1 .249
I2 .245
I3 .225
I4 .225
I5 .250
I6 .242

I also noticed that the second valve from the front on the number four cylinder of the intake side never fully closes. I guess this is what's called a floating valve. It stays open about 3/32 according to the naked eye, but I am a construction worker and looks at measurements all day. I have a new set of Crower springs and retainers on order from Zazzn and I may need to buy a set of valves also. I can't see any of them that look bent, but the same valve sticks down a little farther than it's mate when fully opened.

Does any of this look out of order?

I'm pretty sure I learned that the very first day of spanish class. I've also been listening to a new disc I bought for my computer that is suppose to help me speak spanish. Vonda loves it when I talk dirty to her in a foreign language other than hillbillie.............:naughty:

I just got the block yesterday, so I've done about as much as I can so far, but don't you worry Miguel, we'll be seeing those boobies soon enough..........:biglaugh:

Vonda, You are not a moderator so therefore you don't have the A-THOR-I-TIE to be changing people's posts..................I now owe you five lashes with that special belt you like so much...........:naughty:

May i humbly recommend to go easy on the boobies and more on the block. You know what happened the last time or should I remind you again... :naughty:

good luck with the second build....

Something tells me that the "Hurry Up Whores" will have to be a little more patient this time around. Jay is not up against the wall this time. Texas is over! I'd rather see this one last than see him hurry up this time. His thread is delivering a lot of good information that we can all benefit from in the future.

That's weird, you would have noticed that with the car running. It would have run like shit because you would have made any compression at all in that cyl....

I don't know Mark. It ran strong all the way home even with four broke pistons. I did about ninety all the way from Texas. I can take a picture of it but it doesn't really matter since I'm getting it rebuilt anyways. I'm also wanting to find out which 2jz valves I need and how hard it would be for the machine shop to make them work. I've talked with my machine shop and he said he's willing to machine them down as long as he doesn't have to take too much off the length. I don't want to buy a set just to find out he can't make them work. I know of a guy on Supraforums that did this so I know it can be done. Any help will be appreciated.

Zazzn, I got the springs and retainers today and I can't believe how fast you got them ordered and shipped to my house. Thanks a lot for the great service and communication.

Scott, I'm not trying to build this one super fast, but I am getting pretty sick of not being able to drive it while the weather is perfect. By the time I get it running, it'll be a hundred degrees outside.

OneJ..........I'm always easy on the boobies.

You got your springs too? I got mine yesterday along with the cams.. It all looks great! Thanks Zazzn

So jay, how much will the shop you go to charge me to rebuild the 1jz head and put in these springs, retainers, and cams i just got? If its a decent price, i may be up there sooner than later....

The guy in Jasper that has built mine once and Vonda's once charges $100.00. The guys in Birmingham charge $200.00. I'm not sure who I'm going to take mine too yet. I've never had a problem with anything the guy in Jasper has done. The guys in Birmingham did the rebuild that just blew up, but I can't really find anything to blame them for. It's all pretty much my fault. The guy in Jasper is a little slower because he's a one man operation, which I kinda like. The guys in Birmingham have about ten guys and a couple of them looked like teenagers, so you wouldn't know who built it.

So you aren't looking at getting this one done super-fast, but would like to drive it relatively soon... What kind of time frame does that leave you with?

so what is your deck height?

The valve that looks like it isnt closed all the way - what is the clearance between the shim and the cam? Is it the same shim you were running before or did you just put one in there?

It's probably going to take me about a month depending on what after market parts I go with Kristel. I'm thinking about buying some Crower 2jz valves and having them machined to fit my 1jz. I may not go this route, but I'm checking into it. I really miss driving it, so I may use the stock 1jz valves for now and have one of the 2jz heads rebuilt with oversized valves for a full 2jz swap the next time around.

5150, all of the shims are the same that have been in ther the whole time. I haven't measured the shims or looked to see if they're numbered on them. I can't find my feeler gauges to measure the deck heigth with. I'll have to buy another set at Advance on monday.

If your valve is staying open then Im willing to bet that the shim installed is too thick.

I'll make sure and check it when I have it rebuilt. I have some extra 2jz shims and they look like they're the same diameter.

Went out last night and discovered that someone had stole my two 2jz heads and sold them for scrap metal. Crack heads are the worst disease known to man. Now I don't have the 2jz valves I was wanting to use for my 1jz head.

I also found out that my +.020 pistons I bought are stock. I mic'd them and they were 3.355 which turns out to be an 86mm which turns out to be stock. I think that's why the pistons are broke. Their is way too much play in the block. I can take my hand and move them from side to side almost a sixteenth of an inch. Somebody's got some splaining to do.

Damn Jay, I hate a F'n theif! Maybe they will be caught and get put in a cell with Jerome right after they let him out of confinement for a year.

I guess finding out the pistons aren't the right size kind of explains a little about what happened. And, it gave you a chance to catch the valve problem this time.

The machine shop says the pistons are +.020. I was measuring at the very top of the piston, but it is smaller than the skirts. I don't know how it fits into my ge block unless it was bored once before.

Scott, I think they gave the pistons a little too much clearance. He said they generally add .001 to whatever the pistons call for to keep them from gauding up, but I told him to go with whatever the pistons call for this time. Hopefully it will all work out well. They're doing all the machine work for free since I had a bad experience with them, but it seems like they did their job correctly, except for the added .001 of clearance.
