I'm about ready to just drop a 22R in there and be done with it...........:biglaugh:

I've towed a MKIII with a 22r, you'd be better off pushing it :sarcasm: Stay the course, I've got an M.S. in Mech Engineering and all this quench and c/r talk makes my brain hurt too and I'm supposed to know this stuff :nono:

Just my $.02 of non-expert advice, but it sounds like with correct cam timing you would have been ok on the old motor so I say take the requested measurements and resulting advice from the smarty-pantses here, pick a HG and adjust the cams again on the dyno. Drive the wheels off and enjoy the weather and maybe build a monster GTE on the side so you can get back on GTEpowered.com:naughty:

It doesn't make me feel any better knowing you blew your hg. I don't get any pleasure out of others misery. What head gasket was you running? Are you using a ge or gte block? Stock pistons? Just a few questions I'd like to know the answer to if you don't mind, and good luck on the new head gasket.

Did you measure your cr at all or did you just put a head gasket on it? Thanks, Jay

By new you mean the $2300.00 one from toyota? I thought about going that route myself, but when I found this ge block for $250.00 I thought I'd give it a try and then take my time building the gte block with new parts.

That's really not funny..............:aigo:

I may as well order another set of pistons and rods for my gte block or I won't sleep at night.

BJ, I don't think I have your number unless you sent it to me in a pm.

What do you guys think of these rods?

I have a set of stock gte rods, so I don't have to buy any new ones, but I may as well if I"m going to rebuild the gte. What do you think?

I bought CP pistons last time, but I was wondering about the JE pistons. Are these any better or worse or the same as the CP?

My block is already bores +.020. The block still looks good though so it won't have to be bored again. I'm going to take it apart and double check everything before I order these though.

Here's the CP pistons with Eagle rods for $1129.00

Jay - I like CP pistons...got a coated set coming for the 7M. Not a light as the JE's, but the workmanship is superb.

If you are going to go that route, I would still measure the cc chambers on the 1J vs the 2J head. That way, you can adjust the CR with the pistons...just order a set to give you the same CR as if you had a 2J head on the motor. You'll keep the quench at near stock too.

Suprarich is a dealer...he can hook you up.

I got a call today from the company I"m getting my block from and UPS denied the package due to weight so they're having to send it freight. I then had to find a company willing to let me have a motor sent to their place of business. Hopefully now it will at least be on it's way here so I can do with it whatever I choose. I still don't know exactly what course I"m going to take, but once I get it here, I can take some measurements and hopefully make an educated guess............with the help of some of our members.

Damn Jay, I thought the 1.5 route was supposed to be an easy one. Your problems are starting to make me rethink going 1.5j since my 1j is running so good right now...
