I bought a 2jzge block this morning so I should be able to start putting it back together after I figure out what head gasket I need. I also have my steering rack out so I can send it to Aaron for a new one. I'm also going to try and repaint my engine bay and make it all purdy.

Sounds good man - Im sure you will have it up and running in no time.

I also have used a stock 2jzge engine as is since it was in excellent condition. The 1JZ head was not touched either.I used a stock 2jzgte head gasket for mine ( 4 layers ).
Stock 2jzge head gasket is only a single layer steel btw.I did this after reading a bit about it on NA-T forums and club lexus. There are way more qualified people on these forums that may be able to give you a more numbers/calculations kind of information and what size gasket to use precisely.
I'm just throwing this info out since I just went through this setup and its fresh in my mind :)
Also, I will suggest to use a oil filter sandwich adapter for the oil feed and to mount the oil pressure sender. No drilling required and no extra hoses to buy to fit the pressure sender.

I ordered my Crower springs and retainers today so I'm officially putting Zazzn and Crower on the clock to see how long it takes to get them here. Hopefully they'll be here sooner than later.

A question was brought up to my attention and I don't know the answer. With the ge pistons.......will I be able to get my cr down to around 8.5 without going with a head gasket larger than 2.0? I don't want to run the real high compression that I think my gte had because of the small hg and all the machine work I had done to the block and head. Feel free to chime in and offer your opinons. Thanks.

I never thought about that. I'll just have to lie to him and tell him it's a gte block. He'll never know the difference. You know how those dam'd Canadians are...........:biglaugh:

You are going to need to know the volume of your combustion chamber and your deck height before you get a head gasket.

http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34345&highlight=compression is the thread I posted about the piston dish volume. Yours should be the same but we will also need to know the deck height of your pistons.

When you have the head off of your 2jzge block, just put your 3/4 or 2/5 pistons at TDC and place a straightedge across the top of both pistons. It doesnt need to be a machinist's straight edge - a carpenters square works just fine for this purpose. Place a feeler gauge between the straightedge and the block to get your piston deck height....

Once we know all this stuff then we can figure out what head gaskets will work - until then it is really just a shot in the dark...

They would if you ordered the CP's custom (which you can) for what combustion chamber volume/compression you want. Then you can use a MHG sized + material removed from block/head decks. I just got a set of CP's in 20 over for a 7M that are also coated (ceramic top, moly skirts) ;)

Right Jdub - he could order custom pistons but then he is back in the circle of building a motor (1k or so) vs. using a GE block (which he already has) with a custom head gasket. Also, before ordering the pistons he is still going to have to get the cc volume anyway. Measuring deck height is a 5 minute task if the block is open.

Right now all he needs is a head gasket for the parts he is using.

It would solve the problem ;)
And, you are correct, Jay will have to measure the cc volume.

The only thing about using an uber thick MHG to lower compression is the effect on quench area...too thick a MHG decreases quench area and you increase the chance of detonation.

It would suck to blow the motor again.
