I thought the same thing Aaron, but wouldn't the valves have at least a scratch on them or be bent if it hit hard enough to break the edges off of the pistons. I still feel like I should have went with a thicker head gasket, but there's about four or five people on here that insisted on a stock 1jz head gasket. I won't use the stock one this time when I get it rebuilt. It seems if you take some off of the block and head, you should add it back in with the hg.
I'm just wondering if piston slap could have did this damage. I measured the bores last night and they ranged from 3.382-3.390, but I don't know how accurate the mics are I bought from O'Reily's. I also don't know the exact size of the +.020 pistons are. I've sent CP an email requesting that info and what their recommended allowance is so I"m waiting to hear back from them before I take this to the machine shop. I want to have all my numbers at hand when I go confront them. If it's my fault then I'll buy another set of pistons, but if they put the ford and chevrolet clearance in there then it's their fault.
I'll go get pictures now.

This is number six. You can see all the carbon buildup on it.

Did it ever go lean on you? Man, you are having a heck of time on this Jay. I applaud you for sticking with it. I know it is very easy for an Alabama boy to go the way of the small block chevy in tuff times like these :)

I don't see that happnin'! I could see a full 2JZ in his future. This time he can take his time. If he go nuts in need for some Supra drivin action, there will always be a 7M that's got his back out in the yard. It will just be a matter of how many Honey Do's that will be required to get the chance.

Looks like valves hitting pistons - did you measure the deck height on the pistons and compare it with the 1j?

I come from a land down under
Really hard to tell from those pics but I edited them to get a better look..

Looks like it's a fuel supply issue and/or there was a lash issue in #6.

Bit of a chicken and egg thing, did it torch the valve because it was off the seat or did it torch is through being lean?

Having driven it all the way home makes it hard to tell because of all the Oil coating the piston and chamber, I'd have been able to tell more seeing the plug right after it fell over.

I leaned it out after it started smoking ridiculously. I ran it all the way home at about 15.5 - 1. I never got into boost though.

I'm thinking about going with a full 2jz setup. I have the intake manifold and a 2jz head also. I'll need an exhaust manifold and some injectors I guess. I don't think my fuel rail and injectors will work for the 2jz. Does anyone else know anything else I'd need. I will probably need some 2jz Crower cams unless I use the stock cams. Any suggetions?
Will the stinger and wiring harness I have for the 1jz work just like it is?

The stinger/1j harness will work as is (I believe according to what I've read). If you do go full 2j, I'll pick up the drewgo manifold from you if you're letting it go.

It's already got the flange made on it for your wastegate Mark. I had to cut it off of another manifold and weld it on. It has a T4 flange, but I made it where a T3 flange will fit onto it. Is your turbo a t3 or t4 flange?

Cool man - best of luck with your 2j setup. It will be worth it in the end! At least you have the right oil pan if you go with an Aristo motor!

Sorry to hear about the bad news, I meet you at the night meet right around when they turned off the lights.

If you decided to go with a aristo 2jzgte, Jhot sells the complete auto aristo swap for around 1775.

Jay you can sell the 1J harness and stinger and go with a MKIV harness and MKIV ECU as an option. I never plan to see north of 600's on my setup and guys are making solid 700's on the MKIV ECU with the MAP ECU piggy back. Just an option but you can run the 1J harness and stinger if you are comfortable with the tuning. I prefer the driveability of the stock ECU over a standalone and the MKIV ECU seems to be pretty bullet proof other than the factory lean spot that can be dialed out with the MAP ECU.

Thanks guys, and no my car has never been lean under boost. It's always been a bit rich under boost if anything. As soon as I give it any gas, it goes to 12- 13 afr's, and with any boost it goes to 11.2

I don't know what I'm going to do yet, but I appreciate all of the suggestions. I"ve got a lot of research to do to make my mind up. I'm thinking about buying a MKIV.

NOT!
