It's a sign. Put the 2.5L block back and all will be right again.

I agree with Joe..... Most 1.5 I know blow up. It tends to hold in the 350 to 400 neighborhood but more than that it just goes..... I know a few people that have been successful with it but I guess it's how they did it and the little things that have made a big difference.

I don't know why, but somehow I see Vonda's car with a full 1JZ sometime after Jay gets his car like he wants it. Who knows, maybe he'll take Joe's advise, but his last post sounded like he wants to take a break from the wrench for a little while. I wonder if he's had long enough yet? He hasn't posted since this morning, so maybe he has been in deep thought, and will come out of it with wrenches in both hands.

Mike, their is no reseating these things. It's using a quart of oil every one hundred miles. I'll be pulling the block out later on this week to accesss the damage. The number six cylinder is totally fubar'd. I will rebuild it, we have the technology. This time I'm going to hold the machine shops hand while they do it. I need to have the block rehoned and hopefully that's all it needs. I'll keep you posted and thanks for the remarks, and especially to Kristel for the huggles. (no offense guys)

Jay, after reading this entire thread I saw pictures of an oil port on the head that was welded and re drilled or something like that, Whats the deal with that? Is it required for the 1.5JZ or just something you did to be sure that it wouldnt leak? As you heard from me in texas I plan to do a 1.5 myself after I can stop swaying back and forth from a 1.5 or a full on 2J swap, However Im pretty much set on the 1.5.

Brian, I didn't do any welding or redrilling. That was someone else that was suggesting it, but I don't think it's necessary.

IJ, I've already pulled the motor out and I didn't put the bolts in the top of the head this time. I'll make sure the machine shop doesn't do it either.

jdub, Do you know what type of tolerances the rings should have? I plan on searching on the supraforums site for some 2jz info, but I havn't looked yet. Thanks.

Is Clevite a good enough brand of rings and bearings? I know they used Clevite bearings, but I don't know what brand of rings they used. I have brand new CP pistons though and they're +.020

I'm going to go with a thicker than stock headgsket this time. I think the stock one is too skinny for having the block shaved and the head resurfaced.

Jay, I went through your thread and I didnt see anybody recommend that you use a GE short block instead...

You could probably pick one up pretty cheap and just go with a bit thicker head gasket. The GTE and GE short blocks are practically identical.

Why would I use the GE shortblock instead of the GTE? Is the GE suppose to be better? I don't see how not having the oil squirters could be better, but I'm open to suggestions.

I took the head off of my block and found that I have four broke pistons. Four of the seven, because I have a new seven cylinder, have chips taken out of the top of the pistons. I think it's from piston slap, but I won't know until I get a set of mics and do some measuring. I'll get pictures up later, but I've got to go to work today. Hopefully I'll get home from softball practice before it gets too dark and I'll get some pictures for you to see. Thanks.

gte would be better in a sense but ge isnt much different thats the arguement, its just as good ;) and readily available and cheap..... (going price is 200$ a shortblock or 500$ a engine)

Do the top of the pistons look like they started to melt?

The point I was getting at is that the GE blocks are cheap and readily available and have been proven to hold a lot of power.

Just throwing an idea out. If you could grab a GE you could be out 500 bucks or so and be back up and running in a few days.

But if the squirters are a must have then I guess that ideas out.

Im confused on the GE/GTE talk??? I was with Jay the entire time this engine was destructing. We had good oil preasure the entire time and the car never ran hot. We babbied the hell out of the car the entire way home. The car still pulled and ran fine with the exception that we had the number 6 plug getting oil towards the end of the trip. When we got back to alabama a compression test was done and all the cylinders were fine except 6 was low at 90. Jay doesnt want a stock bottom with x miles he wants the engine he tried to build the first time. My guess is this time around you will see way more into this engine because he isnt up against a clock to get it done anymore. It really sucks that this happened and to be honest Jay is sick about it. Imagine spending all that time and money to be able to compete in Texas and when you get there not being able to do anything except for the show N shine because of how the car was smoking. Lets all give Jay some space and he will fill us all in on progress.
