Sounds like your hardtop seals are in worse shape than you thought...............:evil2:

It could be the ujoints Ken. Mine is making a noise when I'm in first gear barely going. I can feel something bumping under the car. I haven't narrowed it down yet, but if I do, I'll let you know what it was.

Soft scrub from the grocery store, it will remove alot of the oxydation, but you will need to do the 3 step Meguiars immediately to seal and protect the paint because it removes wax and everything else on the paint.

True Dat my brother. I mean, all one has to do is a Google search on "World Class Sports Cars" and see how many blue cars pop up!:biggrinki

I saw the car in Houston and talked to rajunz for a little while. It is truly an incredible supra. I can only dream of having one that nice.

I'll give that stuff a try when I have a full day to kill.

Thanks GTS, and sorry to rag on your thread.

Yes dilute it with water, a sponge and water work great. Once you try it, you'll get an idea of how much water you need. It's sort of self explanatory.

Today I took my car to the Toyota dealership by my house to have the oil and filter changed. I asked them to take a little look underneath and tell me where are all the leaks coming from, oh, and to check my driveshaft.

Well the front/rear main seals are leaking, the oil pan gasket and the valve cover gaskets are leaking. Damn! I figured the rear main would be but not all the rest. I'm not really suprised. Also, my carrier bearing or hanger bearing, whatever you want to call it, is shot! I expected that too from the noise and vibration I'm getting under the car.

So today I was thinking what am I going to do and I think I'm going to do this.

I was thinking about pulling the engine, resealing everything and replacing the HG. While it's out, clean the bay real good and fix the powersteering leak. I don't really have the money for a rebuilt right now and the engine runs great. I've decided I'm not going to pursue any major HP gains with this. I like it the way it is. It's very quiet and smooth and I'm getting excellent gas mileage. I pretty sure I'll be fine using an OEM HG kit and some studs. The car has 133k miles on the original HG so that's saying something. With this car I think I will be more of a superficial bitch and focus on looks.

I know yall are probably thinking that if I'm going to pull the engine, why not just have it rebuilt. Well I just don't want to right now. Hell, I don't even know when I'll be able to pull the motor. I'm going to take care of brakes and driveshaft first. If the HG blows before I do this then it will get a rebuild.
Advice/opinions?

On a side note. My mother died six years ago today:wtc:. So I drove out to the cemetery after picking the car up from the shop so we could chat. So here's another creepy car in the cemetery picture.

Most of my mods where dones out of necessity...

BHG = ARP studs and cometic HG
dead clutch = upgraded clutch because I don't want to change it anytime soon
cracking intercooler pipes = hardpipes
downpipe broke at flex section = DDP (if I could do it again I'd go recirc.)
stock airbox wouldn't fit with hardpipes = apex'i intake
failed inspection = metal core cat
butchered stock exhaust giving me migrains on long trips = 3" catback
not enough boost to peg gauge = shimmed wastegate :D

Most of my stuff makes sense and the car has been a LOT more reliable since. If I had a spotless stock supra it would stay stock. Most of my upgrades where cheaper than replacement parts from the dealer (hardpipes, downpipe, cat, exhaust).

There's no need to rebuild it Ken if it's running fine. Have you did a compression test on it? That should tell you a little bit about the condition of the motor. You can replace the main seals, cam seals, and oilpan gasket and you should be good with the oil leaks. What are your plans concerning the hanger bearing? Good luck with the freshen up.

If I do anything I would get rid of the airbox and maybe open up the exhaust. That's a pretty big if. I will not get a loud exhaust. I'm really liking the quiet.

Stock is not boring, it's reliable. I want to be able to jump in it and drive worry free so I can start taking it to some of these big meets.

I have not done a compression test but would do one before I pulled the motor. I have no reason to believe the numbers will not be within normal range though.
I can't decide on what to do about the hanger bearing. I want to be frugal, but not a cheap ass. That two piece is looking better and better though, from a labor perspective. It sure would be easy to just drop the old and bolt the new one in.

Ken, the one piece would bolt right up as well. I don't remember reading about anyone on here breaking a single driveshaft, but only guys like IJ that knows really high horsepowered cars have broke them or knows someone that has. Good luck either way.

I called Jeff Watson and can get the center support bearing for $122 bucks. I'm thinking about just doing that and replacing it myself, although I'm not excited about being under the car. Last time I hung a driveshaft I could barely move afterwards because of my neck, but, I've had my neck fixed since then too.

My concerns with a one piece are still the smoothness factor. I know some respected people on here have said it's just as smooth as a two piece but I'm still leary.

It just pisses me off all around because of all the damn things that could go wrong, it has to be this. I HATE being under a car.

Ken, you live in Texas. There's got to be bunches and bunches of supra owneres within a one or two hour drive of you that would be willing to help with such a small task as replacing the carrier bearing. Good luck.

As for the one piece, I wouldn't worry about it vibrating too much. They make them so good now and are perfectly balanced. I haven't heard anything but good things from Shaftmasters. Your choice and I'm sure you'll make the one best for you.
